It's beyond political correctness. It's knowledge and understanding and the realization that yet another group of people who are a minority of humanity have been treated unfairly for no reason other than superstition and/or unexamined beliefs.

I don't accept gay people because I am being "politically correct". LMAO, I can't stand most politicians regardless of which party they belong to, but that's a different topic.

I was brought up to believe that homosexuality was "wrong", too. Just accepted that it was a fact. At 20, I went to work in New York City and spent the better part of the next 37 years there. I got to know a lot of gay people, since the city is one of the first places where they felt free to come out as who they were.

They were PEOPLE. They didn't have horns and tails. Most of them were good people who lived fairly boring lives and contributed to their world in positive ways. Most of them were not promiscuous, any more so than the percentage of straight people I knew who were, and most of them, just like me, longed for someone with whom they could be in a loving relationship.

And every last gay person with whom I ever had the conversation said they knew they were attracted to the same sex from the time they were very small children. They were different and they knew it, they picked up the vibe in some cases that they were supposed to be ashamed and hide it, and many times, they did.

You know what happens when people pretend they are not gay? They lie to straight people about their sexuality and marry them. I have known a number of women over the years who were devastated to find out that the man they had married did not truly love them, although in some cases they did genuinely care for their spouse in some way, but all had married in order to desperately hide their true selves from their disapproving families and their wives were left shaken and hurt and questioning their own ability to be loved.

Fortunately, because society now allows people to be honest about who they really are, this happens less and less.

There was actually a couple who both worked where I did who were once married. He was gay. They had two children and shared their parenting even though they had divorced. I asked him about it once, and he said when he was young (and he would be in his 60s now) and the gay world was still deeper in shadow, he mostly dated men who were married and pretending to be straight. He said it was such a sad world, dark bars on side streets, furtive relationships that could never be fully developed. He "decided" he wanted to live as a straight man and he told his future wife about his tendencies and she was OK with him watching gay porn to satisfy those urges. But it just didn't work. It couldn't work. They were not living honestly.

Gay people just happen by nature. They are not abominations or evil or sinful because of the way they were born any more than I am an abomination because I am way taller than "normal" women, or most men, for that matter. They just ARE. Let them be who they are, and accept that people in leadership roles in ancient times in some ancient places did not understand this and that the rules they set down did not come from God but from their own lack of understanding.

The real question is, why are evangelicals so hell-bent on destroying every Christian who dares to question the fear-based biblical opinion, unfounded ideas about homosexuality?

The Bible is alive. It speaks to all of us differently.
the bible is dead trees and dried ink. God's voice is ALIVE and relavant.

Loyalty, and ignorance of the religion they claim to be in, just like you, if they knew the religion they claimed to be in, they would know the worship system, they would know the Temple and what the design of the temple teaches.

I respectfully disagree - delving into the holy scriptures feeds the soul. A lamp for my feet, a light for my path.

Conversation with GOD feeds the soul, empowers the spirit, and changes the world.

Is tnat thumping I hear in the distance?

worship system? God does not demand worship, He demands MERCY towards our neighbors, Justice for the marginalized and HUMILITY--which is sorely lacking in too many "godly" lives..

You are correct: the Bible can be an excellent tool for the "guide" Jesus prominent but it is NOT that guide and interpretation is ALWAYS subject to that guide and recognizable by the character OF that guide.

John does NOT start with, "In the beginning was the Bible..." this doesn't seem to make any sense to those who are committed to the supremacy of the Bible rather than the guide promised in its pages.

Who are you talking about?

Where do you derive your belief in God or an afterlife? You guys toss out the bible, you prove it wrong in your self defeating ideas of wanting to hold on to a thing you have proven wrong. Maybe you aren't understanding this?
