This book should probably be read along with watching the movie, "Spotlight" coming out.

Dave Pierre is the country's leading observer of the media's coverage of the Catholic Church abuse narrative. Dave is the author of three critically acclaimed books, 'Double Standard: Abuse Scandals and the Attack on the Catholic Church,' 'Catholic Priests Falsely Accused: The Facts, The Fraud, The Stories,' and 'Sins of the Press: The Untold Story of The Boston Globe's Reporting on Sex Abuse in the Catholic Church.'

I think everyone realizes that.

Many were falsely accused but many more were guilty and never brought to justice. What is hardly ever mentioned are the priests that were not abusers keeping quiet about the ones they knew were abusers. The seminarians that witnessed the homosexuality and never reported it. The bishops that acted like mafia bosses when they were questioned and refused to give any answers.

It is unfortunate when anyone is falsely accused but you should concentrate on the abuse victims more. The fear they had and the shame they live with.

This all happened because the church would not be honest about homosexuality in the priesthood. Remember that most of the victims were teenage boys and that is NOT pedophilia, it is homosexual rape.

I agree there were many more who were guilty and never brought to justice. There is nothing wrong with homosexuality, but everything wrong with paedophilia/sexual abuse whether it is perpetrated by heterosexuals or homosexuals. Some heterosexual priests sexually abused girls.

Whilst there is never any excuse for sexual abuse, celibacy is not normal, and expecting priests to be celibate is crazy!

You're not seriously suggesting that, somehow, this ameliorates the Catholic Church's longstanding horror show of child sex abuse? It was pervasive, well-documented and, now, fully admitted to by the church.

Mind you, this is a danger in any denomination where adults spend time around young people. What makes this so awful is the Catholic Church's institutional response when these atrocities were brought to its attention. Bribes for the family's silence and simply moving the offending priest to a different unsuspecting parish was standard operating procedure.

So remember this. Time and time again over the years, when facing what was a very clear moral choice between good and evil, the Catholic Church consistently chose evil in order to protect its institutional interests. There is simply no gray area here. In that sense, the church might as well have held down the victims for their abusers.

everything humans do will have a certain amount of error. The biggest mistake we make is making choices that do not account for what innocent people get hurt. Thus the number hurt goes up by a factors of ten.

Celibacy can't be used as an excuse. Many people are celibate, probably more than we realize and they don't go after teenagers of the same sex. Few cases of heterosexual abuse. Fewer cases of pedophilia.

I have yet to see a parish priest that wasn't constantly surrounded by women. If they wanted a woman they could have one, but many desire teenage boys. There are perverts in all sexual orientations and the Catholic Church seems to attract more homosexual perverts than any other group.

I think the OP should read "The Rite Of Sodomy" and "Goodbye Good Men".
