I understand what you are saying, I was one of those children, but it doesn't have to be all bad if a person progresses, but yeah, It can be real abuse to a child raised under the mentality of some Christians. Having said that, as being a child abused in such a mentality, something good came out of it. I wouldn't go back and change it if I could, it made me who I am today. {not that I all that great, but it's me.}
