Because it doesn't mean what you think it means. Killing the people whether it be women, men or babies is not killing them physically but spiritually. One might say, how do you kill them physically?

Except those stories recorded involve historical events, and were recorded by "God's swordsmen" to justify their actions.

It makes it a historical fact. The Babylonians did it, and you are trying to accuse God for it. Contrary to claims here the Bible does not say Babylonians or Jews used God to justify it.
