Revelations that some priests had habitually sexually abused children and that bishops had systematically covered up those crimes burst onto the world stage in 2002 when the Boston Globe reported widespread abuse in the Boston Archdiocese.
All the more reason to never allow your children to be alone with adult males in any religion.
Agreed - in almost any situation, not just religious. A parent should be with a child when examined by a physician, if the child is under the age of 13-14 or so, unless the child expresses a desire to speak with the doctor alone. Team sports should encourage parental participation, including locker room time. This would help keep predators drawn to coaching in line.
Pedophiles tend to prey on kids whose parents are busy doing other stuff.
I have heard that some do a criminal check and have the employee government bonded every year to assure criminal activity ......As these are teachers who have to be bonded so they can be with the youth men and women , so this should go on in the church were adults are alone with any youth where leaders and youth ministry should have this done for peace sake ...... Where people do not trust any religious people is just prejudice against religion as you cannot judge everyone by a few bad apples ........Parents should ask for the leaders to be bonded by the government before they could be alone with the youth .....male and female should be bonded

I can judge religious men. Especially when it comes to the safety of children.
Being bonded does not mean children are safe. Bonding means nothing to a child who is being sexually molested. It does not mean anything to their parents either.
Pedophiles seek groups where children are available. What better place than church?

Any school, or daycare center, or youth sports activity, etc is also a threat. But yes--churches tend to be far too trusting. I've heard from my own church board that they were offended greatly when our policy was put in place by the previous pastor of no adults being alone with kids. After all....how can the nice old grandpa that has been in the church for 20 years harm a kid? The sad thing is.....the first time someone does something like that, it's NEVER expected.
So you're right--we need to protect the kids first, then worry about the ego of the adults.
