A Christian perspective on our Republican Candidates for President
All Republican candidates have said they would resist the attacks on Christianity, while none of the Democrat ones have said so which can only mean they condone them.

That would be because Christianity is not now nor ever has been attacked (by the government) in this nation. And it would be pretty hard to see how "christians" are in a minority since 80% of the people in this country identify on some level as "christian."

Let me illustrate from history how "christians" have found ways to be "persecuted" by others--because so-called christians LOVE to be persecuted:

Quote:
The story of what happened when Christian Roman soldiers met the emperor illustrates the uncanny parallels.

The regiment, a mixture of Christians and non-Christians, was based in Carthage, modern Tunis. In 202 A.D., as a result of their outstanding contribution to the Roman military, they were given the equivalent of a presidential medal. The Roman emperor was awarding them laurel crowns for their bravery. Like the way marriage licenses are given out today, the gift of the crowns to soldiers was the kind of thing that took place in countless other locales and jurisdictions across the empire. In fact, this one event would probably never have made history’s headlines had not it come to the attention of one local pundit. Tertullian, a Latin church writer, thought the ceremony was a direct assault on the Christians’ “religious liberties.” Cue the outrage about “persecution.”

Where does Scripture say that Christians are allowed to wear or receive laurel crowns?” Tertullian asked, in a little pamphlet he published to fan the flames of resistance. Since Jesus had never condoned wearing these pagan crowns, the answer was clear: Christians were prohibited from participating in the ritual. What Tertullian was suggesting was that the soldiers take their gift, toss it on the ground, and stomp away — because “The Bible” told them so.

Of course, that little fit would have gone over real well in front of the ruler of the known world. Hence, what we also learn from Tertullian is this: every Christian soldier in that regiment graciously accepted the honor — and participated in the pagan religious ceremony which accompanied it — without causing any fuss.

Every soldier, that is, except one.

Only he, Tertullian boasted, was the “real Christian,” a “true soldier,” fighting a spiritual war for God.
Actually, Kim Davis Is a Martyr. Here's Why.

That is the basis of modern "persecution." Just find some reason to deny obeying the laws of the land, no matter how trivial it is, and resist.

The reason you want, desire, hope, and pray you will be persecuted is because deep inside you believe persecution make you "right." What it makes you, is a lawbreaker.

When Bush II had the White House, and two sessions of Congress and Senate controlled by Republicans, why was there no law passed outlawing homosexual marriage in America, or a "religious freedom" law allowing you to discriminate against anyone as long as it was done in the name of Jesus? Or for that matter outlawing abortion--again? Did any of these even get proposed? Of course, not.

The 108th Congress had 228 Republicans to 204 Democrats and 3 "other" in the House, the Senate had 48 Democrats and 51 Republicans with one "other." The 109th Congress had 234 Republicans to 200 Democrats with one other in the House, and 45 Democrats and 55 Republicans in the Senate. It was a great opportunity to pass hate legislation--but it wasn't even proposed, let alone passed.

It's because Republicans see "christians" as dupes. If christians can be duped into believing some of the nonsensical things in the Bible it's easy enough to tell them anything they want to hear and forget about it when it comes time to enrich their own pockets.

Quote:
---using fear based on a broadly shared perception — regardless of actual evidence — is something all too familiar to modern-day Christianity in the United States as well. And the reason it hangs around like heartburn after a double bean burrito is because it works.

Here’s how: You establish some platform from which to garner attention. Often this has to do with maintaining a position of power, having a lot of money or both.

You cultivate a sense in the group you represent (be it your church, your faith at large or your state or even your nation) that you are part of an actively persecuted minority.

You rally people to defend against said persecution by fighting back, even if you’re effectively shadow boxing against an enemy that may not even exist.
Texas Takeovers to Criminalized Christianity: When Facts No Longer Matter

The world will little care nor long remember the "pretend" outrages about christian persecution, but the vast harm caused in the short term will cause anxiety and stress for many. If you simply stayed on your knees praying all the time, many of us would rejoice. And if you wish to pray for my "lost" soul, please do. I need the prayers and you need the practice.

Ted Cruz - a scary "Christian Dominionist" who beats his Children and wants to destroy all social systems that benefit the poor. '

I don't see christ in either of these candidates. Or in the nasty rhetoric of the Republican party in general.

Who do I see Christ in? I see values that are consistent with Christian values in Bernie Sanders.

There is nothing new in people trying to paint candidates they do not like as "not christlike" while claiming the ones they do like are 'christlike'. I this case Sheena promotes Sanders and his socialist/Marxist views because those views are in line with her own views.

What an ignorant statement.

You saw a photograph of him praying with a young man - and THAT convinced you that he is a good Christian?

OK, have you heard of a "photo op" or a "press release"?

Or the Gospel? "When you pray, do so in secret, not the way the hypocrites do". - Jesus Christ.

There is no "attack on Christians". What is Cruz going to protect us from? Red paper cups at Christmas?

Spanking to these fundies, means something very different than to most people. Pearls and his crazy wife, advocates "spanking a child with a length of 3/4" plumbing tubing. Cruz, along with the Duggars are adherents of Pearls.

Dobson advocates use of a leather belt. And removal of the diaper when "spanking". The diaper?

This is not a swat on the butt when a two year old runs out into the street. It's planned sadism and it's illegal in most states.

Michael and Debi Pearls recommend "whipping" a crying baby who can not sleep.

How "Christian" of them.

I say so. He puts his hand on the body of a five year old child. It is a deliberate act of child abuse. It makes him unqualified to be President of the United States, let alone Christian.

Oh good, you saw him praying. He is a self serving politician. I have watched his interaction with his wife and children. There is nothing warm in those relationships.

I believe that parents who truly love their children will punish them appriately. I personally pray that committed Christians vote for Ted Cruz to become our next President since he is strongly committed to opposing abortion and supporting the Biblical definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The Supreme Court has turned the Words of God into a lie by legalizing abortions and gay marriages.

By all means let's have laws defined solely by religious views, but let's go ALL the way! Islam has a LOT more comprehensive system, right?
