However you want to translate it - it is anything with roots in unfaithfulness to God.

Romans 14:23 - But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.
6.Tell the children of Israel: When a man or woman commits any of the sins against man to act treacherously against God, and that person is [found] guilty,

Rashi's Commentary:

to act treacherously against God: [Scripture] repeats the section [dealing with] a thief who swears falsely, which is stated in parshath Vayikra : “… and acts treacherously against God by falsely denying to his fellow…” (Lev. 5:21). It is repeated here because two new matters are introduced. The first is that it is written: “they shall confess,” which teaches us that he [the thief] is not required to pay a fifth and [bring] a guilt [offering] when incriminated by two witnesses, until he admits to the deed himself, and the second [matter] is that what is stolen from a proselyte must be given to the kohanim. - [Sifrei Naso 1:13]

When you know to do that which is good but don't.
Then, you have "missed the mark."

How many threads will be needed to convey such a simple concept, eh Jer?? It is so frustrating reading so much convoluted and conflated nonsense about sin in the sin-conscious and literalist majority.

Just more rampant confusion brought on by people reading scripture intended for JEWS in ISRAEL 2,000+ years ago and trying in vain to apply it to GENTILES today living in the USA. It will never work. Jesus Christ made a sovereign decision after the stoning of Stephen to set the Jews aside for a long time, and the law and Temple worship along with it. Everybody should have gotten a clue when the Temple was torn to pieces in 70AD but they just keep on trying and beating their head against the wall til the present day anyway. All the legal "scholars" out there thinking they keep the law but don't and can't.

Those in grace keep yelling the law has been made obsolete and ALL the sin of the world was taken away at the cross and Jesus said "it is finished" but folks will not believe it and will suffer the consequences. It's not about US, it's all about HIM and what HE did..............

Pass the popcorn.........

yuppers vf6. Just like when we say "please take your seats." How would you describe those words literaly?

I don't really believe in "sin against god". I think if there is original sin, its born ignorant, and the sin is being taught and not trying to understand. even if it goes against a belief. I listen to liberals because they can teach me something. I don't hang out with them or or play with them. But I can listen and take it back to the group I do. Then get beat up ... lol

The root of all sin has pride , like murder devalues life has a root of pride , and hatred devalues unity has a root of pride , and abuse devalues respect for life has a roots of pride , selfishness devalues looks down of others which is a roots of pride ........decease and sickness is the outcome of sin .........Then there is sin of unbelief in God which is a rejection of the natural of creation of man and this demeans God , as God created man to be in unity with Him, and without God has left man defenseless in nature and spirit

These kind of threads of carnally minded Christianity will always appear because it cannot help but focus on what is sin rather what is righteousness. Carnal minded Christianity believes God is mad with the world against the world and separated himself from it, ever likely its focus is upon sin(especially judging it in others rather than forgiving it).
Take sin and hell out of carnally minded Christianity and its left with nothing.

Sin is the absence of obedience to God.
The Holy Spirit is provided to teach believers God's will,
that they not be in disobedience with God on a personal level.

We are not dogs. Missing the mark is the result of isolating ourselves from the source. God's primary will is for all to lose the concept of God demanding obedience to him or else.

Let's look at it backwards and see what we get. To NOT sin means we have the mind of Christ, because the mind of Christ is the mark we have to hit, and that mark is the WORD made flesh. Any of you got the mind of Christ in fullness yet completely fulfilling the Word, with your "sin-less" doctrine? Peace
