Our dear brother Paulus to Timothy:

8. but having food and covering we shall be therewith content.

9. But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.

10. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

12. Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, whereunto thou wast called, and didst confess the good confession in the sight of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:8-12)

Let us remember to not collect treasures here in earth, but instead collect the treasure in heaven.

Lovely sentiment, often forgotten these days.

Thanks for an inspirational message to start my day off!

To all - please disregard this, as it is off topic and full of accusations - intending to distract from discussion of the Scripture.

Why even bother with slinging scripture when 90% of evangelicals would sell their soul for wealth, fame and influence?

Many people get tripped up in saying money is the root of evil - but it's the love of money.

It's important for us to be content with what God provides to us. He promises to meet the needs of His children by faith.

Money is just paper, and gold is just a rock. It's the love of self increase, which is the opposite of, you must decrease. Eve saw the fruit and desired it to make one wise. Had she not tried to obtain wisdom through the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh, G-d would have increased her, in season. If a tree bears fruit in the wrong season, that fruit dies. To G-D is given the times and the seasons.

The men at the tower of babel did the same thing. Peace

Amen, DRob4JC !
If more ppl would do this maybe we could have threads that ppl could possibly learn something from rather then always turning into fights over words, opinions, interpretations, etc..

There is to much pride, ppl always wanting to be right and prove how another is so wrong in this forum . And then it turns into ppl holding contempt toward each other if they don't agree with them .
It's awful not showing ppl some respect, kindness, and the big one LOVE !! Just the ugliness of constantly some kind of confrontations !!

A big amen, God's ppl will never need to beg, borrow, or steal for their needs in their life . Just like you have shared, DRob4JC ~!
We can read all through the scripture speaking of God's promises to His ppl !

Psalm 37:25-26
25 I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.
26 All day long he is gracious and lends, and his descendants are a blessing.

Philippians 4:19-20
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
20 Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen. \0/

It is the love of money indeed that we must watch out for. Money is a means to an end and has it's uses. Solomon wisely said, "For wisdom is a protection just as money is a protection, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves the life of its owner." - Ecclesiastes 7:12 So while it has it's uses, to love it more than God, knowledge or wisdom is where the trouble begins. Wealth cannot keep us from dying or give us eternal life. Solomon also wrote, "The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the true God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole obligation of man." - Ecc 12:13

RESPONSE: Actually, I think its agreed upon that the Pastorals (Tim I and II and Titus) were written by a follower of Paul. So it's not really the word of God.

However, Jesus is supposed to have said:

"And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

So if you really believe this, I have a proposal.

You could send all your money to me, so then you'll be poor and stand a much better chance of getting into heaven, right?

Of course, I'll then be rich myself, and I will have to practice squeezing through the eye of a needle!!!!

Just kidding, folks.

Default Eye of the Needle

Hint: The "Eye of the Needle" is not a literal needle's eye. Interested bible students may want to look up what this expression meant.

Some have held the needle’s eye to be a small gate through which a camel, if relieved of its load, could pass with difficulty. However, the Greek word for “needle” found at Matthew 19:24 and Mark 10:25 (rha·phisʹ) is drawn from a verb meaning “sew.” Also, the Greek word appearing in the parallel passage of Luke 18:25 (be·loʹne) is used to refer to a literal surgical needle. Regarding these Greek terms Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words notes: “The idea of applying ‘the needle’s eye’ to small gates seems to be a modern one; there is no ancient trace of it. The Lord’s object in the statement is to express human impossibility and there is no need to endeavour to soften the difficulty by taking the needle to mean anything more than the ordinary instrument.”—1981, Vol. 3, p. 106.

Sometimes a needle is just a needle.
