You MAY want to rethink that one, Viz...

@ Finn-Jarber.....I wondered about that myself, since being basically "cursed" as an "evangelical" was a new experience for me. I wasn't sure was meant by that by the poster, but then I've thrown off most all labels people have tried to pin on me in my walk, by virtue of one belief or another in opposition to theirs. Just when they automatically assumed I must be one thing because of one belief I held, they'd find out I believed something entirely differently to what they had supposed. It can be so hard to pin the wind. Peace

You are on such a crusade... why don't you suggest they follow the Holy Spirit and leave it at that? He certainly will lead "Christ followers" where He wants them to go, right? Isn't that the ultimate goal? You should not dictate how God uses His people... regardless of whether or not homosexuals are included.

And your view is that ONLY the Bible contains any Word from God? Right? The Bible alone.

How did anyone become a Christ follower in the decades before they had any Bibles? There was no picking up a scroll and reciting, "Paul says right here in Romans---."

Why do you reject the Holy Spirit that Christ promised those who follow Him? It is that spirit which leads one to not condemn people because of their nationality, their race, their sexual orientation. It's something that goes so far beyond the mere written pages of the Bible that it is fairly obvious you haven't experienced it.

If you had, you would desert that church and run towards God as fast as you can.

I suppose you don't believe Jesus' words that the Holy Spirit would teach you all things. But then you cannot, if you don't have that Spirit in your heart. Rather you need a rulebook, used like a rulebook, used as a taskmaster---which is EXACTLY what the Pharisees did.

As Soren Kierkegaard once said, "What we need to do is burn all the Bibles." Evangelicals could not be Christians without a Bible to refer to.

For the rest of us, we simply need to keep in mind to love our neighbor as ourselves. The Bible is nice, but it's like desert once you've had the main course (Jesus Christ), a finishing touch, but not necessary for survival.

I see where we are back to seeing people quote the Bible to prove they don't need the Bible.

Actually.it is quoting the bible to prove the bible is a contradiction in itself. 99% of evangelicals are incapable of engaging in social intercourse without some kind of biblical context. It is like using he bible to prove you need the bible--irrelevant and useless.

This claim would be as hard to prove as the one you failed to prove yesterday (and countless of other claims you invent to discredit others).

Stand by for a deflection.

What is your standard of truth for testing the Spirit of what is in the Bible, Finn????Do you just assume that what is in there is from God? Remember, as you said, many false prophets were in the world for hundreds of years after Christ's death and that of the Apostles. So, how do you test the Spirit of what is in there to be sure it is from God and not those many false prophets, translators, transliterators, editors, and copyists???

I hope he will actually answer and not deflect, Jer, but I am not hopeful.
