If you fully read that passage, Paul took the high road, and refused to take from the churches, lest he HINDER the gospel in any way. A hireling is one who does it for worldly gain. The true test of who is and who is not, is therefore, worldly gain. Would that there were more Pauls in our day, who like Yeshua, laid down everything, refusing to take, but rather, gave without recompence. Peace

A hireling is one who does it for the money only. There is no Biblical prohibition against paying a pastor.

Isn't there a prohibition to paying that pastor 100,000 times what the congregation earns?

It can be a lucrative career, but that is pushing it.

No, there's not and there's a reason for that. It makes an excellent test of the motive of the heart, since they too can read that Paul didn't and why. Seen anybody greater than Paul lately, as far as how G-d used him? And by lately, I mean in the last 2000 years. Peace

A salaried pastor can devote himself fully to the work of the Lord. Pastors are on call 24-7.

So be sure and tithe everyone! If your best friend hangs up on you at two in the morning when you're at the ER with a parent who had a heart attack and you need some moral support and a few prayers...... call the pastor. They have to help.

we are no longer under the law but grace- pray over it- and do as you heart indicates. Gods sees your heart - he said NOT to give grudgingly- so if this is what you think is what youhave to do --BE honest with God

It's a competition? Really? Wow. I had no idea. When did it become a competition?
