Arach, it's too soon to rep you again but I want to say that the perspective you bring to religious/spiritual discussions from your particular - and sometimes peculiar - atheist "angle" is often worth the effort it takes to parse them.

I'm rather pleased to see someone repping old Arach. I give him a bit of Stick myself, because I see him
as a sortagod -theist (like yourself), but a militant atheist basher while wearing an atheist hat, which you do not.

I don't think Arach is an atheist basher ... He simply calls out a fundamentalist mindset wherever he encounters it, even in atheists.

Yes. I suppose I see it from the atheist point of view. But as an atheist, he ought to know better, especially when it is repeatedly explained to him. He ought to know that strident polemics on both side is NOT fundamentalism. If he disapproves of stridency on either side, fair enough. Acommodationalist atheists or 'agnostics' a they often call themselves are nothing new.

But the atheist fundamentalist term is bashing. Of course Arach may have stopped using the term now. Fundamentalism is a strict interpretation of religious Dogma/scripture. Atheism has none. To use the term to apply to militancy is deliberate and calculated bashing. To apply it to religion is often misapplied, since it has come to mean intolerant extremism, which is not how I use the term myself.
