Cain was the firstborn of Adam but Cain despised the birthright. Therefore Cain was called Edom.

I believe it was Cain (Edom) that ate the forbidden fruit not Adam

They both did. They dared to challenge their parents.

The message of the Bible is about finding your own way, and escaping the influence of your parents. No longer seeing them as "God". (The sun and moon will no longer be needed to give light.)

Side note.

Cain and Abel stood in the field talking about their Holy days.

Cain got mad and killed Abel because Abel had the right sacrifice and the he did what the holy day called for and Cain did not.

The fact that Cain received a mark in his forehead means that Cain left off keeping what he wanted to, and from then on, he began keeping the ways of God because there is only one way to receive a mark in your forehead and that is by what Holy days you keep, Cain kept the wrong Holy days, the wrong sacrifice, but then he changed to God's Holy days and that seal in his forehead proved it.

Genesis 4

Cain and Abel
2Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

Cain relied on the works of his own hand and when he was to give a blood sacrifice, he did not. Abel explained this to Cain.

Garments had to be made for Adam and Eve from a blood sacrifice and Abel's practice of this same sacrifice only shows him repeating what he was taught.

One brother offered a blood sacrifice and the other brother offered fertility.

God demands a blood sacrifice.

Only Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden fruit.
After they were expelled from Eden a flaming sword kept everyone else out - Genesis 3:24

That is impossible according to the historic account as found in the Bible. After Adam and Eve got kicked out of the garden, God set up guards to keep anyone out of the garden east of Eden. Since Cain was born after the primal pairs expulsion, he could not have had access to either the tree of the knowledge of good and evil nor the tree of life. We don't need to eat of the forbidden fruit. Adam and Eve's posterity experience good and evil.
