Live to submit to God's Word, give others hope through the gospel and build up believers in their walk with Jesus.
Everything can be simplified to this. But it is not easy.
Some equate Self with the Flesh. I think this makes sense.
The Holy Spirit is of God focused on His will and loving others.
The Flesh is focused on self Will and loving self.
It's all very simple a child can understand, but it is not simple. Jesus didn't say it'd be easy. He said it would be hard. He gives us the comforter so we can walk in the Spirit and deny the flesh.
There is so much lukewarm superficial "Christianity" going on in the world today. The heart of our problem is self. Selfishness.
It stinks when you can point the finger at yourself and know you're the problem. Jesus says to truly follow Him is to deny self.
This is why so many people including those professing Christianity as their religion ferociously fight the central message of Christianity. The flesh can never be subject to the Spirit. Naturally we are enemies of God because of the flesh. Self. Self indulgence instead of sacrifice. We ultimately can not do it without God's Spirit. The flesh/ (Self?) is in battle with the Spirit.
My favorite passage in all of the Bible
Isaiah 53:6
All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
What path are we walking in life? Is it the straight and narrow Jesus describes? Matt 7:13-14
An important question we all need to ask ourselves...
Ps.. Hopefully someone finds this edifying.. My hope this won't turn into a strife-filled driven debate.
