Rats! It was worth a try.

The thief achieved the one thing that ensures we are acceptable to God - agape love for Jesus. That state of mind is the key and it can be achieved in an instant regardless what your life has been like before. That state of mind defines the ultimate character of your Spirit. That is why it is so important to TRY to achieve that state of mind every day and repent when you don't.

What does "come to Him" mean?
21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

once again: If faith is more than just an intellectual assent, to what is it a commitment?

This is nothing other than a bunch of bible verses slapped together and blended with the beliefs of men. What you have left of of the equation is ..... God and his ability to accomplish that which is impossible TO YOU.

Actually he did, he publicly professed his faith in Jesus, admitted he was a sinner and deserved what man did to him and spoke up for Jesus. He did all he could. We should learn from that, so that we do all we can. Now if we are hanging on a cross and we are next to Jesus we can do what the thief did, other than that more is required. Note what the apostles did and the earlier disciples mentioned in Acts for example. A good guide for us, not just history.

Just believe in me and your going to heaven is not taught in the scriptures.

If the above are "works" then yes, he did works.

Mathews account of the crucifixion has both thieves insulting Jesus.

Matthew 27:44New International Version (NIV)

44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

It's not your faith, it's by and through the faithfulness of Christ.
Now, run along and believe, whatever it is your mind desires.
