A real christian would NEVER try to force religious sharia law on the public.

So, we must first confess, repent, and accept Him as your Lord and Savior to be saved, and they will know we are Christians by the way we love one another. I agree that Jesus is not saying to have one or the other. He is very clear (Matt 22:36-40 and John 14:15) that we are to keep both of these commandments.

2 Cor 6:14 in particular, I think, is a challenge, especially given 2 Cor 5:20 about being ambassadors for Christ. So to what extent do we seek to witness and bring people to Christ through our testimony and our example; and to what extent do we determine to avoid those and that which may cause us to stumble or be a bad influence? We are asked to balance between being good ambassadors to non-believers, but also not being so yoked / involved / entangled in our relationships with them that it gets in the way of our right relationship with Jesus.

If only it were that simple, right? As we see in this forum in addition to many non-believers in the world, there are many who do not regard the Bible as the inspired Word of God, authoritative and inerrant in its original manuscripts.

So what are we to do with people who profess as Christians but do not accept the Bible as the authoritative, living Word of God?

I agree that I would not simplify it that much. Jesus has so much to teach us and we owe so much to Him, including but not limited to love.

So should we kill for Jesus?

Should we steal from the poor for Jesus?

Should we with hold support from others for Jesus?

Should we go to war for Jesus?

Do we build walls in the name of Jesus?

Do we HATE those of other religions in the name of Jesus?

Do we RAPE in the name of Jesus?

Do we accumulate WEALTH in the name of Jesus?

Do we deny EQUALITY in the name of Jesus?

Do we OPPRESS in the name of Jesus?

Do we DENY health care in the name of Jesus?

Should we ISOLATE ourselves and reject the world in the name of Jesus?

Not sure what the genesis of these questions was. The short answer to all of those would be, "no" although I suppose there are nuances to each point that could be argued but I think essentially "no" is a fair binary answer to each. Why would you ask? I don't think I gave any indication that I would want to do any of those things.

Then again, there are often arguments over the meanings of words, or other interpretive disagreements. Which is kind of what I was discussing in my post, about the challenges of 2 Cor 5 and 2 Cor 6 ; working with non-believers versus not being unequally yoked. There is a balance and not everyone interprets it the same.

So hence we have some Christians who believe in the Bible as authoritative and inspired and others who simply do not. I guess this all dovetails back in with the previous posts.

Genesis..I like that word...

It was in response to the previous post that ended---we owe so much to Him,--yet those in power and status are constantly waging a war against the LEAST and MARGINALIZED and trying to deny them access to an ABUNDANT life..via religious legislation and using their god to shame the lest and marginalized..
