Shows a crude peace of history that has haunted many cultures were socialism is the god , who sees the so called control of the church bad , but which is actually a bonus for nations , as it keeps sin down and peace in heart , but then there is the devil who always influences the masses who will hate the Saviour Jesus gone and deny Him always
It was a good movie about a topic I had no knowledge of prior. I didn't know the Mexican government was so anti-Catholic. It kills me when I hear people saying that Mexico is a mess because it's population is Catholic. Can you imagine what a mess it would be if Mexican people were still ripping beating hearts out of someone's chest with their bare hands? And then eating their victims? Obviously, Catholicism was a vast step up!

yes, the Cristeros war is largely unknown north of the border and the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Mexican government seems a rather strained relationship at best now and historically even worse at times. think Wikipedia has an interesting article on the war and on Church-State conflicts in general there. also agree that folks up here are largely ignorant of just how the "pre conquest" native peoples were treating each other. indeed the Aztec state and its gods were apparently ravenous for sacrificial victims which it extorted as tribute or captives of war. it is likely because of fear and resentment of the Aztec overlords that many of the subject tribes and nations allied themselves with Cortez and his relatively tiny group of soldiers to overthrow their empire. This of course does not excuse or condone the evils that the Spanish conquerors imposed in place of the defeated native rulers but it hopefully places the events in some historical context.

It is amazing to me that the Catholic Church can extol armed conflict in this case while denouncing it in conflicts about Liberation Theology.
well, but can't you see how that is different? ya, me neither :/
one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter, eh.
but both fall into a ditch in the end.

The government was executing priests and religious people. It was a dictatorship. The others were defending themselves to have religious freedom. It was a corrupt government and America has had to do the same thing, remember the American Revolution and that was over paying taxes to England, not being killed for ones beliefs.
