Catholics comprise 50 percent of all Christians worldwide and 16 percent of the world's total population. In 2010, the majority of the world's Catholics were to be found in the Latin American/Carribbean region (39 percent, or 425 million). In 1910, two-thirds of Catholics (65 percent) lived in Europe.Feb 19, 2013

Protestants account for nearly forty percent of Christians worldwide and more than one tenth of the total human population. Various estimates put the percentage of Protestants in relation to the total number of world's Christians at 33%, 36%, 36.7%, and 40%, while in relation to the world's population at 11.6% and 13%.

Both groups share many beliefs most commonly the divine origin of the bible. In the first book of the bible, we are told that Adam sinned. And some tell us that we all share in the guilt for this sin.
“Original sin, also called ancestral sin,[1] is the Christian doctrine of humanity's state of sin resulting from the fall of man, stemming from Adam and Eve's rebellion in Eden, namely the sin of disobedience in consuming from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.[2]”
“ This condition has been characterized in many ways, ranging from something as insignificant as a slight deficiency, or a tendency toward sin yet without collective guilt, referred to as a "sin nature", to something as drastic as total depravity or automatic guilt of all humans through collective guilt.[3]””

Which view do you think is correct and why?

There were 2 Adams
A 1st Adam and a 2nd Adam. The 2nd Adam was domesticated. "Adam" means "domesticated".
Maybe there were 2 forbidden fruits too.

1 Corinthians 15:45
The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.
The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.

And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree knowing good and evil, for when you eat from it you will die die.” (or kill death)

And the serpent saith unto the woman, `ye will not die die for knowing God, because in the day of your eating of it your eyes will be opened, and ye will become as God'

Column 23
At-a-glance/The Bible/101

Who was right God or the serpent? Maybe both were right. Maybe their bodies did die when they ate from the tree but their consciousness was uploaded to a computer

How do you view the guilt of original sin?

As a brilliant - albeit sadistic - tool to lower people's self-esteem and make them easier to manipulate.

Selfishness

This causes people to become greedy and to do and say shameful things. Growing up is about losing that.

Selfishness can be a healthy thing.

I think what you're trying to say is that growing up is about losing egotism

That definition is just as valid as mine. If you see the gods of this world as wanting people to feel shame for not serving them completely.

This.

You gotta beat people up with THE LAW (because of Original Sin, we are all "born in iniquity" thus deserving of ending up on God's eternal garbage heap, writing in torment and agony forever) so that they will feel utterly worthless and underserving of love and afraid and hopeless, and therefore will need and accept the GOSPEL (the good news that if you believe that God was able to vent God's wrath on Godself in your place, God's justice will be satisfied and God will pretend you are righteous and pure and no longer garbage.)

As one of the most harmful doctrines of men to be promulgated. possibly second only in its effect to Sola Scriptura and its similar and equally vicious doctrine of the infallibility of scripture.

The doctrine is based on the idea that the genesis story in the Bible is history rather than the creation myth of a particular ethnic group. Where it fails is in recognizing that it is an attempt to encompass the conflicting nature of man's natural urge to self-preservation extended to selfish wants and the requirements and virtues of living well in a group setting with its own survival values. There is no guilt until there is giving conscious priority to the desires of the individual over the benefit of the group.

What is "original" is the fact of that conflict and how it plays out in our lives
