John 5; "38nor does His word abide in you, because you do not believe the One He sent. 39You pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess eternal life. These are the very words that testify about Me, 40yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.…"

Jesus said that He would send a Guide, and He fairly ell gave us a picture of the nature of that Guide. Do we look first to that Guide, or just try to parse the meaning of the letters.

Pray to God for understanding. Understanding is delivered through the spirit.

The Spirit gives life but the letter kills.

Romans 7:6 King James Version (KJV)

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

2 Corinthians 3:6 (King James Version)

6Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Honestly, alot of reading the bible is also reading it in its proper context to get a understanding too. Starting 66% of the way through the history of the bible in the NT, is what throws many off when they dont understand many of the things and ways leading up to that time. At this point is when many false doctrines form and many debates follow.

When you literally read the Bible, let the Spirit assist you.
Otherwise, you cannot distinguish between good and evil.

Remember, you are to hold onto only that which is good.

Zero.

It is an affront to the Holy Spirit to look for answers in a book written by men. A book can be a guide, but to place it as an authority is pure idolatry.

Yes when people study the Word who have Jesus Holy spirit then they should ask for understanding into the meaning , and Holy Spirit will bring wisdom and understanding into the Word of God and if these people help others instead of isolationism then helping others like teaching will attract Jesus spirit to help even more ....... If people quench the Holy Spirit by condemning others with legalism and ignoring revelation and wisdom and any call of God would be ignored or reasons themselves out ............ Then when people hear the Word of God , then Holy Spirit will remind them of the Word that they hear or read when situations come up when the Word of God is needed .......

Man's controbutions and opinions, are not "God's" word.
What Jesus said, Is God's word, and nothing less.
Men have a tendency to ignore the things Jesus taught for things men teach, that contradict Jesus teaching ,and then play havoc trying to compromise the two.
On judgment day man will be judged for what God thinks, not or what man thinks.
Paul nor any other man will be on that judgment seat ,only Christ. Matthew 7;21,22,23,

Jesus provided the Holy Spirit to teach and guide in God's will ,
to circumvent this , is an insult to God's investment.
To give more respect to the things Paul (or any other man) taught, than the things Jesus taught, is as such,, an insult .

The scriptures were never intended to be a replacement for this relationship ,but an example of those that sought after God's guidance, and they either were blessed fallowing Him, or suffered the consequences ignoring God .
Copying some ones else's instruction "is not getting instruction from God" ,it attempting to use scriptures like an incantation witchcraft .
Be assured Satan knows the scriptures better then you do , and he will use them to manipulate you if he can. Matthew 4;
Jesus resisted Satan with His "love for the Father" and to "OBEY HIM"
How about you ?

The reasoning of this is skewed. If the words of Jesus and the what Spirit speaks to us personally is ALL we are supposed to listen to now, who then do you think spoke to Paul, and the disciples after He was no longer in a flesh body?

Who do you think it was that spoke to the OT people that recorded it? Acting like only what the red letter says is valid is absurd, because it negates the fact that by His Spirit He spoke to the others, INCLUDING what was they recorded Jesus said and did. Yet some will argue that they only should listen to the Spirit now, and not the words recorded. Can't those of you that espouse this reasoning see your flaw? You want to claim spiritual authority for what YOU hear, but refuse to allow that same "privilege" of it for the disciples or Paul. It's called RESPECT OF PERSONS, namely being you have more respect for yourselves than that of the disciples or Paul. Peace
