Thus, the story of Jesus walking on water would demonstrate to pagans that Jesus was better than these "non-gods" and thus not a lesser to the pagan gods.
Fascinating! I love it.

Certainly a very interesting take away from this topic. You are a deep thinker.

Missed this. I really doubt that, as Moses parting the Sea was really G-d parting the Sea, as His "woman" Egypt's water broke and He had to extract His son He was to name Israel. Elisha's was also a indication of a covenant son having been born, as he received the double portion. Peace

What were the many reasons Jesus walked on water?

He had no fear of the water, even though he couldn't swim.

Because humans are hard-wired to believe that unknown phenomena are supernatural. An unknown phenomenon like walking on water would be seen as supernatural by most humans.

Your answer gives me the impression that you believe it actually happened, so I'm basing my questions on that premise:

What then "unknown phenomena" would have allowed a person of that time period to appear to be walking on water? You think Jesus was skiing? Or wearing floaties on his feet? Or do you think Jesus knew of some other phenomena that we still don't know about today?

Maybe his feet were super cold and turned the water into a little floating ice walkway.
I don't know. Why does Jesus do any of the things he does?

lol.

I like this question.

Actually, maybe it was just to give his disciples encouragement/strength.
Like "Look guys, you're doing the right thing. Don't start getting discouraged or having doubts, look at me, I'm walking on water for goodness sakes... can any normal human being do this? This is an important mission. Everything is going to be ok. You're in good hands."

Well, if you're going with the story the way it was written, then Jesus and Peter were both standing on a sandbar. Then Peter stepped off the sandbar and, instead of just getting back onto the sandbar, he panicked and needed Jesus to rescue him.
