For the same reasons he did all his miracles -- to validate his claims of being God and the Messiah.

The text doesn't say a lot...I just asked what do you think...as in, What 'could be' the many reasons?
-Could it have been to show what simple faith can do? Sure.

-Could it have been to show the power we all have, laying dormant, undiscovered and unrealized? Sure.
-When he called Peter...was it to show how ONE second of doubt or lack of focus can sink us? Sure.
-Could it have been for the others to follow in Peter's footsteps, showing Peter's incredible faith? Sure.
- '' "" to just wake them up and gain their respect and attention? Sure.
I believe this act is fascinating...and what was said earlier about him being better than the other previous 'non-gods' that Luminous said.
What else could have been his purpose?

I like taking something Jesus said or did and contemplating it till the possibilities are almost exhausted.
He performed miracles and did things no man could ever do to validate His ministry and who He IS......
