But I have been pondering the dreamless state of sleep.
I prefer the dreamless state of sleep because I can't control my dreams and sometimes they are unpleasant. Sometimes they are good. But the most rest comes from deep, dreamless sleep. If we do go to sleep when we die, I'm okay with that. It just doesn't square with a good number of experiences people have had who died and came back to their mortal bodies.

My experience was one of no consciousness or awareness, even the darkness disappeared.

Jerwade, have you died and been revived? I didn't know this about you. Please share more if you would like. I find these experiences fascinating.
I so remember when I had my tonsils out at the age of 26, I had absolutely no memory of being asleep, but when they woke me up, I told them it was the most restful sleep I had ever felt.
On this note, I have wondered why we have no problem putting an animal to sleep without pain, but they seem incapable of doing the same with those who are put to death by our "criminal justice system". It seems to me like the criminal justice system in some cases feels the desire to mete out vengeance.
I don't think the physical body is resurrected, do you?

One of the groups that hated Jesus was the Sadducees who also rejected the physical resurrection.
And btw, Jesus didn't respond back with pleroo-isms or shamelessly quote Scripture while having pagan malice for the very same "because what is written came from the minds of men".

Not surprising you would post a diatribe against the Sadducees since they were the antithesis of the Pharisees and both groups had a hand in crucifying Christ. The Pharisees believed in the resurrection and life after death but rejected Jesus - isn't that interesting. As I recall, Jesus very much disliked the Pharisees because they were the Jewish hypocrites, but I do not recall him speaking against the Sadducees.

Let's just say, getting shot and/or loosing a lot of blood isn't a good thing.
It's the state of dying that can be difficult to entertain, not death itself.

It's like that of vengeance is mine, according to the ideologies of men.
