An idol is craving and really desiring, craving or more satisfying something more than God. It is where the heart is and God knows all our hearts. It can mean loving or wanting someone more than God. It goes against Jesus first greatest commandment of: Love God all your heart, all your mind and strength.
We're talking here about the said creator and ruler of the universe that none of us would even know about if not for having either read about or taught about this said creator from a book. So, in practical everyday terms, how DOES one 'love' an invisible being 'with all of their heart, mind and soul'?
This is one of those cliches that Christians bandy around constantly without actually knowing, I suspect, what it even means. But then, there's a lot of stuff that Christians bandy around constantly without knowing, I suspect, what it means.
At five you weren’t even old enough to have grown up Christian...And there is no such thing as a Christian Jew, perhaps you are thinking of a Messianic Jew...Even then, the Messianic Movement is 80% gentile...
I use Christian Jew for those who don't know what Messianic means.
Do you not realize, jojo, that Paul was making reference to things that were going on within the pagan temples?
Do you not realize that Paul is addressing quite clearly that people (once worshipers of God) were now worshiping idols?
Do you not realize that Paul was addressing blatant pagan rituals that involved sex with prostitutes (considered sacred) that were being performed in the temples ...practices that had nothing to do with 'Adam and Steve' who live down the street?
In fact, 'Adam and Steve' (simply a metaphor for a gay couple) are not covered at all in this passage of scripture.
Paul (again a mere mortal and NOT God) may well have personally opposed 'societal' homosexuality had he come across it. Who knows?
However, we don't get this personal viewpoint from any of his letters ...
only references to the worship and sexual practices that were occurring in the form of idolatry in the pagan temples.
I didnt know he was addressing the pagans and temples. Thank you.

This would be a good topic all by itself!
I believe you must know that which you love...otherwise it is like loving a puppy from a photo.
It isn't until you have the puppy everyday and know the puppy that you can say you know him and love him...
Otherwise it's just gooey feelings that are ok, but don't amt to a lot.
When a person is in love don't they dwell on that person ( ha, or puppy or baby*) in their mind constantly?
Give that person things?
Help that person in all ways?
Praise that person to others and have their back?
Protect that person and make them safe and warm in all ways?
Appreciate and acknowledge them?
Spend time with them ?
Give them their rapt attention?
Care about what they care about?
I could go on...
* a baby is a person for those wanting to point this out to me...
