This is the usual denial that many Christians make in defense of the Bible.
Yours is the usual approach for offense against the Bible, and that it teaches a flat-earth principle. On top of that, you're
thread continues the offense against Christians by promoting the notion that waves of Christians are jumping aboard a flat-Earth bandwagon, also unfounded and unproven. Double fail. We all see what you're up to. You're not pulling anything over on us.
In the interest of truth I prefer to address it. You might want to read my posts on the issue in the other thread - Christianity and science
God did not find it necessary to correct the Biblical writers understanding of the cosmos in order to communicate His message to them. If you really want to understand the Bible you have to understand it within the time and culture in which it was written.
The Bible was never intended as an astronomical and cosmological treatise. That's why it wouldn't go into details about those matters. It's foolishness to attempt to highjack the Bible and its purpose, and then try to malign it under such conditions.

Good grief. First of all, I am a Christian. But I'm not a Christian who keeps his head in the sand. The Bible is what it is which is both the word of God and a very human book which was written by people who lived within an Ancient Near Eastern culture which had a certain view of the cosmos.
The only thing I'm 'up to' is to present what Biblical scholars have long known for the benefit of Christians who aren't afraid of the truth.

Of course the Bible was never intended to be a scientific treatise. That's why the creation accounts in the Bible are not literal but are polemic attacks on the creation stories of Israel's neighbors.
But the ancient Hebrews did believe that the earth was flat.
I don’t think that biblical writers necessarily believed that, but merely used poetic liscence as they wrote...
I think the evidence is that the Biblical writers, along with their ANE neighbors had a three tiered view of the cosmos which included the heavens above, the earth (flat) and the underworld.

We know the earth is not flat and there is no underworld, but we can ALL see the stars.
So, what exactly is your point - are you changing your views about HELL - the underworld.
Or, are you still going to follow that which is false?

Uh oh Mike. You've stopped being a "we" according to that Christian at least. The accusations are sure to follow...oh wait, I see Pin got ya.

The point of this thread is that there is a growing movement of people who believe that the earth is flat. And no, I have not changed my views about either Hades or the lake of fire.

All you seem capable of is making unsupported assertions which therefore don't deserve any attention.

Well, I may or may not be a 'we' according to whomever, but I am 'me' and I go where the evidence leads. There's no need to protect people from the Bible. It is what it is.
