Why is it hate trying to understand the mind of modern atheists? They want to shut down religion so we need to understand why.
If by "shut down religion" you mean make religious belief illegal, that's nonsense. First of all, freedom of religious belief is guaranteed by the constitution. Second, it is not possible to legislate what a person chooses to believe. Non believers are content to shine a light on the foolish childlike claims that religions make and allow religious superstitious nonsense to fall apart from the weight of the inherent silliness of the claims that religion makes. At the current rate of decline, no religious belief at all will be the norm for more than 50% of the US population by the middle of this century, and religious beliefs will be nearly non existent in the US by the end of this century. Religion will ultimately peter out and die, the victim of its unrealistic foolish claims. Force will not be necessary.
I mean shut down anything religion in the public square.
I mean if men fought and died for our country and they are Christian why does letting a cross be on the memorial for them be so bad?
Do you mean on the tombstones?
BTW, not ALL the men (or women) who fought and died for out Country are Christians. Even some Christians (Jehovah's Witnesses, for example) are offended by the display of a cross because it is seen as a graven image and therefore forbidden. Why should we intentionally offend these citizens?

So you also support the display of Islamic, Hindu, and Buddhist religious iconry, not to mention Satanic iconry, in the public square? Or is your outrage limited only to the exclusion of religious iconry that you happen to support?

The Becket Fund supports any and all religions, if you read their web site. But I see Christian symbols being affected more than the others.
No, I don't, when these men fought for the freedom of our country.
Janelle, let me repeat. Public funds can not be used for religious symbols. SCOTUS has consistently ruled that way. Put up a memorial that doesn't include religious symbols, and no one will complain. Want to see a great example? Go to Washington and look at the Vietnam memorial. BTW, the Vietnam memorial is on public land, but no taxpayer dollars went into it, and it has no religious symbolism. It's done the right way.
