And that is just a simple excuse for bigotry and a false basis for thinking about people who realize that common uncerstanding is wrong concerning what the Bible has to say about "Sin" and what the "New Covenant" means in that regard. It is not about a list of rules poorly understood, it is about what God wants for humanity that He loves. That "sin" is what does actual harm to them, not imaginary faults.
Is that the same New Covenant spoken of in Jeremiah 31?...

No, it's the one spoken of by Paul: "6And He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
Yes, they call them grifters, an old timey word. A grifter is someone who swindles you through deception or fraud. Waving God before us all----their concept of God---is an attempt to appeal to a sense of personal morality while placing shackles on your heart over everything you say and do as if God is unable to speak to you in His own way.
GRIFTER should be the word of the year. There are a lot of grifters in high earthly places.

From a parochial standpoint, The important thing is that the need for one was recognized. What you are struggling with, Richard is the curious idea that things in Torah especially, but also in Tanach should be taken literally rather than recognizing that they are a set of primary documents through which the development of a realization concerning the nature of God and our relation to Him in society can be traced in one ethnic group. Another important realization concerning forms of religion is in Micah 6:8.

As Christians we have freedom in Christ. We can have Church at any time on any day. We can pray, sing songs, and yes, dance all for His good pleasure. We can place trees in our living room. That tree may have had pagan origins but it holds absolutely no power over us today. We use it as a reminder of our Lord’s birth and call it blessed.
I like tradition. I like that we have a day to remember when Jesus came into this world as a man and a day that marks His sacrifice and our salvation. I like to go to church early on Sunday mornings. I eat chocolate bunnies at Easter. I don’t do it for some fertilty ritual but because I like chocolate.
Lets not abuse our freedom to commit sin in His presence.
Let's not continue to condemn ourselves for the GUILT the church wants to bury us under...
