There is a whole thread on this in the political section. Sad and hopefully the church can get it taken care of THIS time. It's high time something was done about it.
‘Dear Troubled Catholics’: Church needs spiritual renewal
Missouri Bishop: Homosexuality at Root of Abuse Crisis
If that is truly what they believe, why is the church not aggressively targeting homosexuality and its general acceptance in the US today? Plus, if this were true, we should be seeing christian and catholic churches all over, starting to do more things like Westboro Baptist!

There are numerous studies that show conclusively that child molesters are almost never homosexuals. By a huge margin, they are heterosexual males, although a large number of child molesters have trouble forming adult relationships.
I don't know why people keep posting information that has been soundly disproven.
The core problem isn't homosexuality. All you have to do is look at Protestant churches where ostensibly heterosexual men molest children. That's because there is no link between homosexuality and child molestation.
However, the Catholic church's problems are exacerbated by celibacy, a requirement for which there's no scriptural basis--and no basis in the early church, for that matter. There were married priests in the Catholic Church until two Lateran councils instituted celibacy in the 12th Century. Even then there were plenty of instances where popes, cardinals, bishops, and priests fathered children and kept right on in their holy offices.
If discovered committing this kind of offense, a Protestant or Anglican or Orthodox clergy is typically drummed out of the church and turned over to the authorities. On the other hand, decades after the outrages have been unmasked, the Catholic church keeps covering up for the misdeeds of its priesthood. There's a simple reason for this: There are not enough priests to go around. That's why, institutionally, the solution was always to pay off the families and move the priest to a different unsuspecting parish.
