Give yourself some credit. You seem like a smart person. You CAN figure a lot of that stuff out with some basic understanding. Pick up a text book or two on the time periods, and you can learn this stuff without having to be spoon fed their classic answers to questions on the RCC theology.

Look...I'm not going to bash the Catholic church. But don't think you have to rely on them alone to learn.

I guess you listen to many of them, not just one and you read the bible along with them. Then you decide.

One's person's opinion is not a fact. Catholics are not discouraged from reading the bible. Why would they be since it was never intended to be taken literally.
