I commonly see posts or other statements made by Evangelical Christians questioning whether those in Mainline denominations such as the Presbyterian Church, the Episcopal Church, the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), the Methodist Church, or the United Church of Christ are truly Christians or saved. There is often an implication that these churches have strayed far from Biblical teaching and doctrine and Christian Orthodoxy and that these churches preach an overly watered down Christianity which speaks more about doing good things within a culturally/politically correct context. I attend a Presbyterian Church and have evangelical leanings myself but see these critiques of mainline denominations as missing the mark as the Presbyterian and Methodist services I have attended preach the Gospel in its full, unfiltered form. Do Evangelicals view these those in Mainline Protestant denominations as saved if they have professed faith in Christ, and if not, what do they feel these churches are doing wrong?

Everything evangelicals say, believe and do should be taken with a grain of salt. Anyone seeking the reality of God would do well to avoid the beliefs system of the evangelicals, ignore this warning at your peril.

I maintain that most of the people sitting in buildings every week are poorly taught and don't have a clue about the real gospel. You say "services I have attended preach the Gospel in its full, unfiltered form" so could you elaborate on that gospel that saves?

I find it narrow-minded to dismiss Evangelicals and Evangelical Christianity out-of-hand. It is simply a response amongst many believers to ways in which they feel that older churches/denominations have compromised on certain principles of orthodoxy and biblical teaching. I have had positive experiences in both Mainline and Evangelical Protestant Churches as well as Catholic Churches. I am not saying that Evangelicals (as understood within the Modern Western Context) are right or wrong in their interpretation, only that it exists for a reason. Too often Evangelical Christianity is conflated with a certain political and cultural set of beliefs which have nothing to do with the actual meaning of the word Evangelical which is simply the Greek word for "Good News", that is the Good News of the Gospel. One should also understand that Conservative Evangelicals hold whatever Political positions they do in relation to their theology out of a conviction of its doctrinal soundness and correctness and not out of an intention to be exclusive, judgemental, or hateful towards others that don't share their beliefs in much the same manner as Liberal Christians derive their political views in relation to their theology from a belief in its correctness in propagating certain notions of fairness, justice, and inclusivity which can also be found in the Bible.

As best I can articulate, when I say in its full unfiltered form, namely that mankind has been separated from God by sin, that God sent Jesus Christ as his only son to provide blood atonement for our Sins, that he was crucified by Pontius Pilate, died, was resurrected and ascended into heaven and is consubstantial with God the Father and will return to judge the living and the dead. That Jesus was both fully Human and Fully God. That we are saved only by faith in him. That we must repent our sins and live according to the principles of the infallible word of God found in the scriptures.

Well, oihamad, rest assured that such things won't fly HERE. In this forum we do NOT question the credentials of someone who claims Christianity.

KJV 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

There are an abundance of "believers' that choose to ignore the things Jesus taught ,and in their lives Jesus has no actual Lordship.
What would you call it?

Jesus provided the Holy Spirit to teach in His place, but some choose to usurp that place for them selves .
What would you call it?
Every single one of us will give account for our lives and all we have said ,Jesus said so.

Jesus provided an infallible teacher of God's will, the Holy Sprit ,but certain men circumvent God's design , what would you call it?

Only fundies require saving - saving from their blinkered ignorance.

Which is why I have offered my services so selflessly here for six years.
