So why the bigotry? If I say I don't hate anyone, I don't hate anyone.

It's mostly Enlightenment rubbish, followed by the 19th century armchair Darwinists, which was much more of a political movement than anything to do with science; right wingers were right there with the Marxists in trying to get rid of the restrictions Christianity put on mindless self-indulgence. The Marxists took to attacking it as a means of destroying entire cultures and a demographic capable of resisting their 'revolutionary rationalism'.

Modern Xian bashing is left over Soviet Cold War rubbish, adapted by right and left wingers for the same reasons, mostly assorted sexual deviants and dopeheads along with Reds these days, and 'libertarians' and other right wingers are also on the bandwagon.

According to both Marxists and right wingers people are now to be categorized according to their perceived economic value, and exterminated if they are seen to 'fall short'; the methods of extermination vary, according to the ideological rhetoric employed, but the intentions are the same. For how the 'unwashed masses' are viewed by wingnuts, distinctions between 'left' or 'right' are distinctions without a difference. Marxists and bankers aren't different except in who they think deserves to own everybody else. Christianity is far too egalitarian and solid for either wing, thus the always urgent need to get rid of them.

One example of faux 'rationalism and scientific secular humanism' as merely a veneer to cover up psychotic lunacy:

Why, it's all perfectly 'logical' and 'scientific', you know ... and just never about all those mass murders and genocides committed by those wonderful new 'progressive left wing govts. like the Soviet Union and Red China and Pol Pot. Those don't count. Instead, snivel incessantly about some 3,000 un-verified deaths in the Spanish Inquisition or something.

The wicked have to justify their love of the darkness.

and so they attempt to transfer their guilt to the innocent.....they lie, they falsely accuse and they use every method they can think of to absolve themselves of the guilt that knaws at their heart.

They are sinners and there is nothing that can change it...

except the blood of Christ.

that's me, hollering from the choir loft...

That is a trademark of the bible fundamentalist, for it is them holding the world over a barrel of guilt. Get your facts right.

What is the darkness that those who are not like you love?.

Religious minded people (albeit not all) need their scapegoat.
They crucify the innocent, subjecting them to public disgrace.

This could be the case, but it seems the elephant in the room is that everyone does not worship the same God. And some are arguing for their individual/group God(s). Different Gods have different tenants.
