I would rather use a cross without Jesus on it in a church building because crucifixes can be an idol. However I am fine of using one as a decoration. Though i can understand why some churches use a crucifix in their churches which reminds them of Jesus' suffering and death on the cross but at the same time if it is worshipped then it becomes an idol

Jesus isn't on the cross anymore, so I don't like crucifixes showing him on the cross.

Who “worships” a crucifix?

Either one is alright by me , as the crucifix with the cadaver of Jesus Christ show the basic foundation of Christianity were Jesus was lynched by people of sin , which shows God judgment , where Jesus crucified is the lone Judgment for grace for all blessing , as God judgment comes with understanding that sin must be put down as God is Holy ................. Then the empty cross show the risen Lord who poured out His soul on to death , and overcome death..... .... All and all I am not a Catholic but I did overcome the spirit of divisions through the grace of God

When my son was 4, he pointed to a crucifix hanging in my parents' house and declared: "I don't like that Jesus on the plus sign."

He's 34 now, and perhaps unsurprisingly, irreligious.

Do you think God answered his petition of "Father forgive them they know not what they do"?. I doubt it being a vengeful sinner punishing God.

Either way, it's an idol.

The English word "idol" in translations of the Bible may represent any of several Hebrew words. In the commandment "You shall not make for yourselves an idol", the word is pesel, indicating something carved or hewn. In subsequent passages, pesel was applied to images of metal and wood, as well as those of stone. Other terms, such as nēsek and massēkâ, massēbâ, ōseb, and maskit also indicate a material or manner of manufacture.[13]
Some terms represent the consistently negative moral view with which idols are portrayed by the Bible.[14] For example, idols are referred to as "non-God,"[15] "things of naught,"[16] "vanity,"[17] "iniquity,"[18] "wind and confusion," [19] "the dead,"[20] "carcasses,"[21] and "a lie".[22] Other terms are deliberately contemptuous, such as elilim, "powerless ones", and gillulim, "pellets of dung".[23]

Cross without carcass on it becomes image of god. Manufactured image, a symbol.
An idol.

An idol.
So a cross or a crucifix is an idol?

No.

It’s only an idol if it’s worshiped.

I don’t know anybody who worships a cross or crucifix.
