They are doing good works, but those works don't save. Works are the fruit of a soul who has been saved by GRACE.

Ephesians 2
[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
[10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

A lot of the people here donít reject everything from the bible, the bible is a spiritual book that is not to be read literally ....... if anything does not gel with the spirit you are reading it with your literal eyes not your spiritual eyes. A lot of the things in the bible are not literal history but are things written as allegory and example to be lined up with what they are pointing to.

Trout seems to have a pretty good idea which parts in the bible are not literal.

James 2:19 actually says, ''even the demons believe.'' But the context is that the demons believe that God is one. They do not believe that Jesus died for their sins, which indeed He didn't. Christ died for mankind. Not for the demons, and not for the fallen angels. Jesus had to become a man, a human being, in order to die a substitutionary death for mankind.

And yes, salvation is by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. It is not on the basis of works.
