He had to be a human so He could DO what we humans could NOT do - achieve perfect agape love in a human consciousness to connect ALL human consciousness to God's consciousness. All human consciousness remained separate from God until His human consciousness achieved "perfect resonance" (Identity) with God's consciousness. That is how He is the Way to God. We need to emulate His love however imperfectly to achieve the cover of His perfect love (Grace). There is no punishment needed. It is HIS mercy and compassion (Agape) toward the "sins" of our ancestors - their ignorance and brutality - that revealed the True Nature of God the Father. His death and rebirth as Spirit make His Holy Spirit available to us within our consciousness during sincere and devout prayer or meditation. Be silent and know He is there, Mike.
As usual, you have no regard for what the Biblical writers wrote. Sin needed to be judged. And God did judge sin at the cross where Jesus took the sins of the world onto Himself and took the punishment that was due us.
This is even brought out in Isaiah 53 which states that the suffering servant would be smitten of God, pierced through for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities. That He would be cut off (killed) for the transgression of my [God's] people for whom the stroke was due. The Lord was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief if He would render Himself as a guilt offering. All of this screams substitution and judgment.
And Jesus is plainly stated in 1 Peter 2:24 to have borne our sins in His own body on the cross.
Since mankind sinned and is under the penalty of spiritual death, it was a man, a man free of sin that had to die as our substitute in order to provide salvation for man.
Christ's death defeated the powers of evil (religious men) which held humanity in bondage.
His desire was that of mercy, not a blood sacrifice which was borrowed from Pagan worship.

It only screams substitution and judgment to primitive minds under fear of God. But fear of God who IS agape love is preposterous. They did the best they could to understand what was inexplicable in their ignorance and barbaric beliefs about God especially since they were terrified of Spirits and would never have even tried to comprehend. Their carnal minds were not suited to spiritual thinking.

You have a false sense of superiority and place yourself above the writers of the Bible who unlike yourself actually did have encounters with God. Both the Old and New Testaments are clear that the Messiah had to die as our substitute in order to provide salvation. And your opinions don't change that fact.

Jesus in the New Testament makes the remark "That what you do for the least of mine, you do for Me." And St.James, the Lord's brother and head of the church in Jerusalem says in the New Testament "Faith without works is dead."
When you help people by giving them food and shelter, helping mow the lawn or do other things for an elderly neighbor, bring groceries and help out sick family members or neighbors, you are giving them love, the love christ has for all of us. He wasonce asked,"What is the greatest commandment?" Jesus said, to love the Lord God with your whole heart and being. And the second greatest is to love your neighbor as you love yourself."
