And the Lord saith, Forasmuch as this people draw near with their mouth,
and honor me with their lips, but their heart is removed far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught of men; -Darby Bible (read on v14-15)

The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.-NIV

The Lord says: “These people worship me with their mouths,
and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship is based on nothing but human rules.- NCV

The Lord said, “These people show respect to Me with their mouth,
and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
Their worship of Me is worth nothing.

They teach rules that men have made. -NLV

Isaiah 29:13

THIS is why the fear -based Christians are a turn off...and often challenged, imo.
(To explain to them why they are met with confrontation, with respect.)

there are several types and degree of "FEAR". as with Love.

example, there is a FEAR of our human fathers when we was growing up, especially when we did something wrong. but that same man was the loving father who we climb in his arms all the time.

then there is a fear of the unknown, as well as the known, a fear in and out of anger, as well as in and out of Love. it can go on and on, the fear of HATE..... see what we mean.

but there is a healthy FEAR of the Lord to be understood. just as with our human fathers when growing up, for we're as babes when growing up in the Lord and when we become men and women there is Healthy respect of the Lord (WE LEARN). Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding".

There's a difference between fear and reverence. And if it's not applicable to you forgetaboutit.

Well, we have heard all that before, thank you, no offense, 101C.

But the fear of hell, etc., thus of our own Father God....so ya better believe or there's a'torment awaitin' you....is, of course, what is being presented by me, here.

Nope...fear of God is NOT the beginning of wisdom....Respect, honor and love are the beginning of wisdom. (Yes,
added... and reverence, gabfest.)
Why weren't those words used?

So Do you modify your behavior around some people?
are you same around a 80-year-old as you are around a pack of 6-year-olds? and are you the same with strangers as you are with your closest friend?

I modify my behavior to each person, generally....never really thought about it...yet, I stay true to myself
pretty much. If a person is a hugger I hug...if they aren't I don't and so on...if I'm with
a pal I would say sh*t, for example;
with someone younger or way older I would be more reserved, socially correct.
I dunno what the point is...is that what you mean? I believe most people would be the same.
Hidden purposes of questions smack of a mind game or a trick...I hope this isn't one.

Yeshayahu - Isaiah - Chapter 29

13 And the Lord said: "Because this people has come near; with their mouth and with their lips they honor Me, but their heart they draw far away from Me, and their fear of Me has become a command of people, which has been taught.

Rashi:

Because this people has come near: Jonathan renders: Because this people has aggrandized itself. I.e., they have come near to raise themselves up to the heavens. They show themselves as though honoring Me with mouth and lip, but their heart they have drawn far away from Me.

and their fear of Me has become: not wholehearted, but by the command of the people who teach them, they show themselves as humbled before Him in order to entice Him with your mouth.

In other words, they’re putting on an act, no sincerity...
