There was a similar thread on this subject awhile back.

The Color of Christ

I am black and the color of the Lord does not matter to me, but I think that it is good to have pictures, Bibles with pictures, ect. of a darker skinned Jesus to be more realistic. I remember growing up w/only white pictures of Jesus which was alienating to some people of color in this society. God bless.

Hi, Findinghope, I haven't heard that, but maybe some believers do. I don't believe that if someone has statue that they are going against the Bible. Now, if someone is worshipping the statue that's a different story When I was growing up we use to have these large family Bibles that had beautifully colored illustrations of different Biblical characters and the children would love to look at the pictures because it brought the stories to life for us. God bless.

Highly unlikely that Jesus was Black, but as a Middle Easterner and Jew, He would not have had the blonde hair and blue eyes and the blush of a maiden that I have seen in many portraits -- in my own church, no less.

And I wasn't trying to be a smart-aleck when I asked, 'what if He was?' For me, it would make no difference.

heres the way I see it, Jesus color has no effect on how I see him, Jesus is God, if it helps someone to see Jesus in their own color, thats great. God made us the way we are, and I just dont think God pays much attention to the outside anyway.

Default Galatians 3:28-29

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I don't know...I've always wanted to study the commandment about graven images more in depth. I think it means more than just literally having a statue and bowing down to it being wrong. I think it might also have something to do with how images impact our view of God; perhaps even limiting our view of God?

i think it has to do with the fact that people were idolizing a golden cow.

i am catholic and obvioulsy we have many paintings and stautes in our churches and in our homes. we do not pray to the objects. we use them as a focal point, we use them to add beauty, we use them to teach. each staute has something representing why they are who they are.
St. Lucia for example is always holding a dish with eyes. she is considered the patron saint of the blind. and so when we see the statue we remember their story...

I always think of the plight of the Jewish nation when I think of what the black people have gone through in history...

Still the Jewish nation are God's chosen people and have somehow survived and stayed true to God and hopefully not bitter.

Hath not the Potter ...???
Could you explain a little more what you mean here, World Citizen? Thanks!
