so..not so much from the 'my people' perspective...as the reference is pointing to the priests failing to teach the people.
you said assuming the catholic priests are not teaching--what do you mean ?

you are right i said i do not religiously read the bible. i do not believe everything in it literally. Corking contradicts herself. as you see she fights and says that you cannot be saved by having "last rights" or aka the prayer for the sick.
and then she says all you have to do is ask forgiveness for all the wrong you have done in your life and that Jesus will turn no one away.
that is what last rights is. it does not need to be done on the death bed. you may ask forgiveness at any time!
but the last rights is a sacrament and given to those who are ill with a smallchance of survival. it is usually done in church while the people are still able to go out. it is a way of repenting, letting God into your heat and asking HIM to help you on your journey to HIM. it does not heal you physically, only spiritually, and to be used hand in hand with medical science...

catholics DO follow the bible contrary to what Corking likes to say. we follow the new testament. in church we read from the gospels. they are stories as told by the apostles, and then the preist puts it into a conext that will benefit us in our modern daily lives.
we learn the stories of the old testament, butto me--they are stories that helped to explain to people thousands of years ago how we got here, why we are here, and why things were happening all around them
