"Knowing that the United States of America is entering a time of desperation for our Lord Jesus Christ, the time has come to ask for personal repentance across our nation. We’ve witnessed firsthand the impending threat of terrorism, natural disaster, broken marriages, moral depletion, denominational division within the church body and denying Christ as the center of our relationships and our lives. The time has come to repent and believe."

ReignDown USA: What's Happening on 4.26.08

The ReignDown movement is gaining momentum. Based on a vision and the words found in 2 Chronicles 7:14, there is a call for Christians in the U.S. to unite in prayer on Saturday, April 26. Several governors have apparently issued proclamations for that day calling for prayer and repentance. The Mall in Washington D.C. has been secured for this day, and other venues will be open throughout the country. Whether corporately or individually, all are encouraged to join in prayer for the U.S. starting at 6:00 p.m., Eastern Time Zone.

Whether you put stock in visions or not, this sounds like an exciting time for Christians to come together. Please check out the website for additional information.

. . . if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

It's easy to pray.. but it's hard to humble ourselves, truly seek God's face and turn from our wicked ways!

Don't mean to pour water on this idea.. but sometimes we think about "the nation" having to change, and forget about ourselves.. it's a very personal battle.

Just some random thoughts on this dreary morning..

Thanks Blueberry; for the info.
I haven't heard about it, that's surprising since I live in the bible belt,
But will spread it around;
I wish it drew as much attention as the strawberry, dogwood, and cherry blossom festivals and all the other festivals;
But I guess that is one of the reasons why we need this day ...so we can stop putting ourselves and everything before the Lord
"Repentance in U.S.A. whoohoooo
God Bless You

Sadly, one day of repentance isn't the answer. Many will ignorantly use this day as a conscience cleaner with a single, very generic, "I'm sorry, Lord. Please forgive me. I'll try to do better," and then move on with their life as if they've done a good thing.

Repenting means to turn away from completely. To stop doing those sins altogether. It's not an "I'm sorry." We are to continually repent, with humility and remorse. No revival ever came without travail.

Actually, the need for personal repentance is acknowledged by this movement. It's actually mentioned first, then prayer for the nation.

I think this is a good idea but repentance and prayer need to happen EVERYDAY. Our country and world is in too much turmoil to pray one day out of the year.

I absolutely agree! It seems that this event is being seen as a collective starting point, acknowledging the nation needs more than a single day of prayer and repentance. Of course, if people are truly repenting, that will carry over into a heartfelt desire to be in a constant state of prayer, repentance, and renewal.

Recently, I've read of two different mayors of large cities who have called on their people to humble themselves before God, to engage in heartfelt prayer and repentance. They see this as the only remedy for what ails their cities. It sounds like some governors have reached the same conclusion. I don't think all of these proclamations are related to the ReignDown event. It seems that leaders are finally coming to the conclusion that repentance is the only thing that will save our cities, states, and nation.

Isaiah exhorts people to find God while he can be found. Jeremiah tells of a group of people left in Jerusalem after the Babylonian siege and destruction. These people sought refuge in Egypt against God's will. The women of the group were angry with Jeremiah for calling them to account; all the "bad" things had happened after they "gave up their idols" and "turned to God." Their "repentance" happened too late. It's obvious their repentance wasn't genuine because they were still disobeying God and they were returning to the idols they had during their time of prosperity.

Repentance has to be genuine, and it must be an ongoing desire accompanied by obedience. It seems Christians have been seeing storm clouds gathering for quite some time; it's just that we hope the writing isn't already on the wall. We hope there is still time for the nation to turn to God. (In all honesty, I'm not sure that's it's not already too late for the nation, but I sincerely believe individuals will have an opportunity to repent right up to the bitter end.) I'm looking at the ReignDown event as a call to spiritual awareness and a call to spiritual arms.
