OK, it is official! I have begun a bible study. This is the link:

Real Audio Bible Study Course

AAAahhhhh! It's a Catholic site.

I am sure that it will be a slow go and I hope it's OK with everyone (mods, especially), but I thought that I would go live (so to speak). I am listening to audio while I work and if something strikes me as peculiar, I run to my already open Catholic Study Bible and actually READ it. I am going to post my thoughts and/or questions here in hopes that you will all help me understand. All opinions welcome and encouraged.

Gen. 1-5

First, I see where Eve gets her name. Gen 3:20, but where/when does Adam get his? I only see him referred to as man.

Gen. 5:24 Then Enoch walked with God, and he was no longer here, for God took him.

Who was Enoch and why did God take him? Why does he not die like everyone before him?

That's it so far. More to come, I'm sure.

The Prophet Enoch

The name Adam simply means 'man' in Hebrew.

Thanks, Arguy, I wil also be DM'ing you with a question.

Arguy's link brought up another question that I would appriciate some feedback on. I thought I knew the answer, but perhaps not.

Why did God not look favorably on Cain's sacrifice?

It was not the best of His crop, it was not given with love.

God was well pleased with Enoch because he overcame sin and loved God with all of His being.
He came back to earth and raised up a righteous people before the floods, He also raised Noah, His great grand son.
THe city of Enoch was glorious and in harmony with doing all things for God's Glory. It was taken up to heaven as a shining city of Zion (the pure in heart).

godspeed,

Thanks, freedom. It looks like I need to re-read chp 5. I did not understand any of that, only that he did not die and went to live with God.

The book of Enoch was removed from the Canon by one vote. It is the oldest scripture that we know of, It has always been in the Ethiopic bible and still remains. You can find it online. Evangel won't order it nor do they carry it.

Default Just venting...

Well, here I am trying to be a good Christian and study my Bible...as I noted, I started an audio bible study. This is easy for me as I my computer is set up in my kitchen and I listen while cooking, cleaning, etc.
But, here's were my gripe comes in, I also have gotten out my Catholic Study Bible to reference. I am a "start at the beginning" kind of girl and since the study also began at Genesis that seemed the logical place to open my Bible. WEEEEELLLLLLL, there are almost 600 pages of "reading guide" before I get to the Book of Genesis. Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!

Thanks for listening.

freedom,

Could you further explain this:

THe city of Enoch was glorious and in harmony with doing all things for God's Glory. It was taken up to heaven as a shining city of Zion (the pure in heart).
