1st.
Just exactly what is a Fundamentalist Christian? I cannot find such a designation in the scriptures, and yet I keep hearing the term.

What do you mean when you say you are a 'born again' Christian ?
It is my understanding of the scriptures, that any Christian has been born again, or else they are not a Christian. So the term is redundant.
The Wikipedia article on Fundamentalist Christianity describes it as such:
"Fundamentalist Christianity, also known as Christian Fundamentalism or Fundamentalist Evangelicalism, is a movement that arose mainly within British and American Protestantism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries among conservative evangelical Christians, who, in a reaction to modernism, actively affirmed a fundamental set of Christian beliefs: the inerrancy of the Bible, Sola Scriptura, the virgin birth of Christ, the doctrine of substitutionary atonement, the bodily resurrection of Jesus, and the imminent personal return of Jesus Christ."
The term isn't Biblical in origin but just describes what basic Christianity is to most Christians...pretty simple.
As far as the term "born again" Christian is concerned I think the term is used mostly to describe those who are true believers. There are a lot of people that describe themselves as "Christians" who are not true believers. I have many acquaintances and family members who would fall into this category.

So, according to this...if you do not describe yourself as "born again" you may not be a "true believer" ???
Why is it that false Christians cannot call themselves the same thing ?
I agree, there are many who call themselves 'Christians' that are not, probably lots more than who really are.
What I really am wanting to hear it from, is those who call themselves that.

Our pastor used to say he was a fundamentalist..he said he didnt have much fun and was mental about it-lol
I think the two are different. Take the American Baptist denomination for instance. Members get saved, and are therefore "born again" and they consider themselves "born again". But the denomination is more mainstream in beliefs (closer to Presbyterian or Methodist in their service and beliefs) and wouldn't generally be considered "fundamentalist".
Fundamentalists are probably all "born again" and do the whole "alter call" thing, but they're what I consider more hard core, Bible literalist, and very into what they perceive to be a "black and white" Bible translation, althought there's definitely a scale of fundamentalism all the way down to the denominations that make women wear long dresses, no makeup, and long hair, no dancing, drinking, etc. Fundamentalists tend to believe they have the one, true translation and that those less "fundamental" then themselves are wrong, if not hell-bound.

LOL I guess I fall under the category of "Fundamentalist". But to me, it's all redundant. I believe in the "fundamentals" of the Word of God, and I am a true Christian, so therefore I am, of course, "born-again".
I think you may be right, arguy, about the derogatory use of "born-again".
Lumping all Christians with a certain type of belief into one category makes about as much sense to me as lumping all cookies in one category.....there's 100's of different "kinds" of cookies. But, they're all called "cookies"!!
Well I consider myself a fundamentalist Christian Marianne, what is it specifically that you want to know?
So, I guess I just want to know what makes you differant from any one else who really believes and obeys the word of God ? Is there a particular differance ?
