Jesus was crucified and buried on what must have been Friday (day before the sabbath). The sabbath begins 18:00 Friday to 18:00 Saturday.
"..the evening and the morning were the first day"
All accounts show nothing happened on the Sabbath so in effect the sabbath was day 1
"..the evening and the morning were the second day." 18:00 Saturday to Sunday 18:00.
Yet
Mat 28:1 Now after the Sabbath (Sunday), as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
So it would appear that Jesus was only entombed on the sabbath and half of the following day hence 1-1/2 days.
Mat 27:62 On the next day, (sabbath?) which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate,
Now I have heard that there was a double sabbath at the time but find no evidence and if the above text is taken to mean another 24 hour period, we still come up short 12 hours.
