You are absolutely correct. It's clear that the demonstration was not about God's message or anything else, but a Grand Stand Soap Box for the Reverend. Sometimes these people shoot themselves in the foot.

Once again you have to compare it to what Jesus would have done. He was not out for public prominence or prestige. Now he can go home the persecuted hero and on into the mega-church media circuit. That should pay for his expenses and then some
