And if ye [be] Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

What exactly is the promise given to Abraham?

We were told to read duet :28 But I do not see how that chapter tells of the promise???

See Genesis 15:1-21 & 17:1-8 -- the promise involves, in part, giving them the promised land.

The promises are scattered throughout the teachings of Christ.

If thine eye be single, ye shall be filled

Mat 5:3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 5:4 Blessed [are] they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Mat 5:5 Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Mat 5:6 Blessed [are] they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Mat 5:7 Blessed [are] the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Mat 5:8 Blessed [are] the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Mat 5:9 Blessed [are] the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Mat 5:10 Blessed [are] they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when [men] shall revile you, and persecute [you], and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great [is] your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Mat 5:13 ¶ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

As well as all the teachings on Life everlasting, immortallity, perfection, godliness.

Jhn 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

Which the Pharisee's correctly understood included physical and spiritual death.

Abraham did not live by the law of Moses, He lived by the Promises. Though in Hebrews ch.11 He saw them afar off, or after death. So he did not receive the blessings of the promises. Enoch however did, he pleased God and was translated.

Jesus came to undue the works of Satan and death, by re teaching the promises, and if we live by them and keep them, then the works of Satan no longer have power over us. Even death will back down, as it did with Enoch, Elijah, and a few others.
He even brought the promises down to those that Satan had bound, and released those that wished to live according to Christ.
The power of the Cross was that Satan killed an innocent man, that had not earned the wages of sin....DEATH, and Jesus let him, so that Satan would lose all sinners forever.

godspeed,

freedom

Ask yourself, "What is the Promised Land?" and keep in mind that there are two promised lands given to Abraham, which are two different types.

One Promised Land was given in Genesis 15:18: In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

This promise was given based on nothing other than being in the family. Those who are born from above, in type. The children of Israel were in this land of Promise before they even stepped foot outside their doors in Goshen.

The second Promised Land was the Land Flowing with Milk and Honey. This is the better part of the inheritance. A type of the coming Kingdom. Not everyone who is in the family will receive the better part of the inheritance, but only those in the family can qualify to enter in.

This promise was based on works: baptism and walking faithfully and fighting for the Land.

The answer is in the Romans Chapter 4

Romans 4:1
[ Abraham Justified by Faith ] What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter?

Romans 4:13
It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

Romans 4:16
Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

Romans 3:28
For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.

It is by faith that will separate the sheep from the goats.
