Default WOW!!! I did not know Bill Maher was such an atheist. He was totally bashing Christians on Larry King last night.

I did not know that "Politically Incorrect," Bill Maher had such a dislike of Christians. He was totally bashing what Christians believe in and even has a movie coming out totally talking about faith, in a bad way. He said he does not see how us as Christians could ever believe that a snack actually talked referring to the garden of Eden, and that none of us know what happens after death. He really sounded angry and bitter against Christians, he said he was raised Catholic. What do you guys think? We need to prayer for Mr. Maher that he will experience the love of Christ like many of us have.

I love Bill M. and think he's pretty much right on target. Really, a talking snake? I don't have any idea what happens when I die, nor will I try to even suppose what happens.

Mr. Maher comes across as a very bitter, unhappy man and I pity him, I really do. I agree that we do need to pray for him as the love of Jesus is the only thing that can change his heart.

I think Bill Maher is hillarious and very intelligent.

People who question the validity of Christianity are "bitter and unhappy" and elicit your pity? Tsk, tsk...how very judgemental and self-righteous.

Yes, Mr. Maher is not a fan of Christianity. To be honest, I'd rather have someone be honest like that, than be lukewarm about the faith or be "PC" all the time. I found it kind of humourous that Larry King had Rick Warren on Monday night, and Bill Maher the next (it was originally aired on Tuesday). He is right, none of us really know i.e. have experienced what happens after death, which is why Christians mainly believe what we do, that Jesus is our savior from death b/c He's been on the other side of death and came back to tell about it. One of the initial things that led me to faith is that every apostle (except Judas-suicide and John-exiled) died a martyr's death refusing to go back on what they saw in that Jesus resurrected from the dead. Why live a miserable martyr's life for a lie?

I keep getting posters mixed up. I thought you referred to yourself as 'Christian'.

I know that I didn't realize you're an atheist. I need to start placing stickies on my monitor!

I would venture to say most Christians, at least in the USA, would not take the talking snake literally. I have attended Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Catholic services in which the priest/pastor/minister flat out says that. I've also been to many churches where the Pries/pastor/minister/ will point out we don't know what happens after we die. We don't we believe, feel, and trust certain things will happen, but that is it. An Atheist wouldn't tell you we don't know. He would say we do know, and that nothing happens except decomposition. Even among those who claim to know absolutely that we go to heaven, they would all give you a different conception of heaven. We don't know, those who believe in life after death do it on faith, which is kind of the whole point of Christianity, or any other religion.

Ive never had a pastor or minister say they didnt believe something the bible says and if they did they would loose alot of credibility with me instantly and alot of red flags would go up making me wonder what else in the Bible they had doubts about..

as far as Larry King...the closest Ive ever came to watching him is on a SNL skit..

I didn't mean to say there were not Biblical literalists out there, but they are a minority in Christianity. Many more people accept the Bible as divinely inspired, but not literally true.

from a story at: One-Third of Americans Believe the Bible is Literally True

PRINCETON, NJ -- About one-third of the American adult population believes the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally word for word. This percentage is slightly lower than several decades ago. The majority of those Americans who don't believe that the Bible is literally true believe that it is the inspired word of God but that not everything it in should be taken literally

if you scroll down where it breaks it up by religious groups, no subgroup Protestants, Catholics, or Other Christians has more people believe in literalism than not.

Im not one for polls, because they can be so off-base with their target audience..

I dont know anyone that is a Christian that doesnt take the Bible literally..literally in the sense that what it says happened, did indeed happen that way.
