This lady that goes to church every Sunday just became a sales representative for a company that sells direct to people in their homes.
She contacted a little, elderly lady about getting signed up -- a little lady who's made her sole income from selling this product for many years.
When she signed up, she told her that she would not contact or try to sell to the little lady's established, long time customers -- many of whom she knew were her neighbors.
The newly signed salesperson apparently forgot her promise and began going to her neighbors and taking the elderly lady's sales away from her.
In this case, Is calling on someone else's established customers - trying to gain them as her customers "ok because this is a capitalist society -- and, of course, "because that is the nature of sales..." ?" Or, as a christian, would you consider it to be stealing... and also, lying???
What is the christian response in this situation?
Keep in mind that this person goes to church every Sunday....
Sadly, just because an individual attends church is no indication they are living their life according to the principles God gave in His Word. People go to church for any number of reasons and many times the reason has absolutely nothing to do with living a life that is pleasing before their God.
Situations like you referred to are just so sad. It would seem the elderly lady's customers would stay faithful to her....but she may need to contact them and regain their business. IF she is also a member of the same church of the person who is doing her wrong, she may want to contact the elders of the church or take this to God in prayer.
What is a false witness?
We're not talking about gossip -- no one's discussing this with anyone else.
If you know for sure that a "christian brother or sister" is doing something subversive that can destroy someone else's livelihood (and you're certain that this is a fact).... what is the right thing to do about it?
Please explain your reference...

Well, 9th and 10th commandments combined, but it comes down to coveting the material goods that your neighbor has obtained through the blessings of God and their own effort. This can mean what they have as well as their means of keeping what they have. In this situation, stealing your neighbor's clientele is stealing their entire livelihood.

Oh, I have False Witness as the 8th Commandment. Once again, the Commandment Numbering System rears its ugly head.
