Just out of curiousity. Why do you think this is an interesting thread for a Christian forum? Do you believe it is ungodly or unchristianlike to have a passion for something?

My opinion is as follows:

No, it is not wrong to have a passion for something so long as that passion does not take the #1 spot in your heart that rightfully belongs to God. The moment any passion becomes first in your life, above God, then it would be considered sinful in nature. However, if one maintains their #1 as God, putting Him first in all they do, there, in my opinion, is nothing wrong with feeling "passionate" towards something or someone else.

Spouses feel passion between the two of them and that is not sinful. Most parents are passionate over their children and that is not sinful. Other's may be involved in some ministry that is their calling and they are passionate about it. Yet even others have particular interests such as reading, writing, etc and are passionate about their interest, that too is not sinful. Again, so long as none of these things are placed higher than or in more importance to God.

Speaking even of ministry, the bible tells us in 1st Corinthians 16: 15-16 about such devotion in the ministry to the saints. In fact, would we not say that all the diciples/apostles were passionate and devoted about their ministry. And surely one can say but they were about the Lord's work. Would not our marriages, the raising of our children, the tending to our families, our home, and even the engagement in those talents and interests that the Lord has given us not too be about doing His work.

Having "passion" for something or being "passionate" about something merely means that one can receive intense feelings from it. That one may devote themselves to some level to it. This in and of itself is not a sin or unchristianlike.

Now, an important thing to remember is, we are not to be passionate towards that which is sinful, nor should our passion be of a sinful nature, i.e. come before God.

However, merely looking at it say in terms of the devotion one may display as a result of being passionate towards something or someone, I am passionate and devoted about my husband and my children. Does that make me less Christian? Does not God want me to be devoted to my husband and my children? I believe He does. What He doesn't want is for me to place them above Him, which I don't.

Thank you. Guess I felt "passionate" about the subject. Just a little play on the word.
