Anyone else think it may be less than ironic that the Destruction of Jerusalem likely happened exactly 40 years after Christ died?

40 is an important number in the Bible, as the rains during Noah lasted 40 days and the reigns of Saul, David, & Solomon were all 40 years

Yes, looks like God planned it that way. If you want to see some absolutely astounding evidence from hostile witnesses that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah foretold by Isaiah & Daniel the prophets, just Google the words "Forty years before the temple was destroyed" and read the top dozen website search results. You'll be amazed at the evidence, especially what's written in the Jewish Talmud.

It happened because Jesus prophesied it would when He said, "I tell you this generation will not have passed till all these things are fulfilled." It is a HUGE mistake to tie Jesus words to some mythological rapture, antichrist and a mythological 7-year tribulation which are never going to happen. Please don't make that same mistake and walk around with your eyes up in the skies every waking minute. There's so much more to be doing down here to advance God's kingdom here on earth.

Thrillobyte, I think were talking about REAL events that already happened. Look at this article for example:

Christ, the final scapegoat

Before the Messiah would return, Jerusalem would be trampled under the feet of the gentiles, until the times of the gentiles are fulfilled. From Luke 21:24

Jerusalem was trampled by the gentiles for many centuries. Even today, Israel only controls a part of Jerusalem ( Based on the last info of mine, anyone have an update?)

So the initial trampling by the romans and temple destruction, was only the beginning of the trampling of the gentiles. It began at or near 40 years from the time it was foretold by CHRIST, but it did not end in 70 ad by a long shot. It had to end before CHRIST would return. Maybe it did officially end in 1948 AD, or perhaps it is near its end.

The romans ocupation of Jerusalem lasted a long time and was followed by ocupations of other gentile nations, including muslims.

One interesting thing to note about this time, or generation. The type was already set in stone when Israel was in the Wilderness for 40 years. What we see in Revelation is a time that Israel is placed in the wilderness on the wings of an eagle. This place, although a place of refuge, can be ordained for the righteous, as well as the unrighteous, like Israel was in Moses' time. For their lack of faith, God made them wander.....how many encampments did they station at?

42 encampments...see Numbers 33

The time that Israel is in the wilderness in Revelation 12 is a time, times and a half time. This period of time is consistent with the 42 months in Revelation 11 and 13:

Rev 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty [and] two months.

Rev 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months.

What is the pattern here?

God had given Israel, not Christian Israel, but aposate Israel, the allotted time to come to Him, yet they did not, and suffered the most devastating events since Daniel and Ezekiel's time. The complete destruction of their religious polity.
