For years I kept hearing the Christians on the left tell the Christians on the right, the Tony Campolos, Brian McLaren, "that we fundamentalist are hurting the gospel", "we shouldn't be caught up in politics", "stop harping on gay and abortion rights."

Tony Compolo said, that the "Red Letter Christians" was formed to transcend partisan politics, and now LOOK! He is on the Democratic Party platform and Brian McLaren is actually doing ads for Barak Obama, not only is he doing ads but he is LYING to other Christians that Obama (a man who is rated 100% by planned parenthood) will reduce abortions in America.

OH! I get it! We were hurting the gospel because we sided with the GOP! GOT IT!

HYPOCRITES!!

Have you ever read The Scarlet Letter?

Perhaps you might understand the meaning behind "Red Letter Christian" a little better if you did.

Maybe the red letters are the ones they dip in the blood of the innocent.

godspeed,

I read the book in my junior year in high school. "Red Letter Christians" are liberal "Christians" who only follow the teachings of the red letters in the bible and pretty much discard the rest because after all Jesus was love, therefore we should love, love, love. It's a hippie gospel.

Love is not a hippy gospel, It is God's word.

If there are those that change the meaning of Charity, then the curse is on them.

Without Love, everything is nothing.

THe "Red Letters" words of Christ are so profound and simple, they go over the fanatics head.

godspeed,

freedom

We fundamentalist take in the ENTIRE bible not just the red letters.

The funny part about red letter Christians is they forget the Jesus that is to return, doesn't sound like all love to me? but then again their gospel is so screwed up, based on lies and heresy that they don't know which end is up not to mention they think God is a big ol' meanie.

The second problem involves the group’s piecemeal approach to Scripture. To concentrate on certain parts of the Bible to the exclusion of others is unbalanced and dangerous. These people don't even really believe in heaven AND honestly I seriously question their salvation just like I do their weak gospel.

And so do many liberal Christians - we just read it differently - such smugness amazes me. It really does. It kind of reminds of the way the Pharisees behaved...........

It amazes you when I call people out as heretics which the bible tells us to do. It amazes you that I question a group who pick and choose out of the bible, it amazes you that I question a group who portray Jesus in a wrong manner because they neglect to talk about the Jesus that will return in Revelation, not to mention totally BUTCHER the sermon on the mount, it amazes you that I question people who think the bible is IRRELEVANT.

well then be amazed.

No, you assume that anyone who does not hear exactly the same message as you when the read, and study, and agonize over the WORD of God doesn't "get it". It is the lack of tolerance and openess to other ways of looking at things.

Actually, you would be surpirsed to find that most Liturgical Christians are forced in a way by the Church to read much of the Bible as the verses for the reading [every Sunday old testament, new testament, and Gospel reading] rotate on a cyclical basis lest the parishiners latch onto a certain narrow set of verses and ignore the rest.

And like you, we read the Bible, and we have Bible Study and our ministers and priests are schooled in latin, Greek, Aramaic and well learned in Bible History. And we read our Bibles and we read our commentaries. And we think and study and ponder and try to change our lives. Any of the main liturgical churches you would consider "liberal" because they are not fundamentalists.
