I bought a little log cabin in the woods...talk about excape!!! Life just didn't make sense at the time. I decided to go to the bookstore and decided to buy a bunch of books to see if someone had life figured out. The display in the center has Purpose Driven Life on it and at the bottom of the front cover it says, "what on earth am I here for". I thought that I just how I feel. I bought the book, read it and decided to go home and give my marriage another try. That was five years ago.
I think I have bought and given away about 80 copies of that book. It certainly doesn't replace the Bible, but that's not it's intention. He gives a clear gospel presentation and uses about 1,000 scriputres in most translations. I'm sure Joel's book has very few.
For me it was the right message at the right time in my life and God used that to put me back on track with my relationship with Him and my marriage.
I feel blessed that God used that book in my life to turn me back to Him.
Plus Rick Warren gave all the years of salary he was paid by his church back to them since he made so much off the book!
Did you realize you were a horrible, despicable sinner in the eyes of God in need of a savior. That we are children of wrath. Did you repent and put your trust in Christ? get baptized and be born again? that you realize that it is through faith by grace we are saved.

Do you feel the need to go out there and witness to people (friends and family) so they don't go to hell?

If it makes you feel better I'll be happy to be your beacon of blame. I do find it funny that now all of this is my fault.

Fact is you stated that "most" churches today preach from self help books. I called on you to provide documentation for such a statment. You provided opinion (and still provide opinion).

It might not be important to you.. but that doesn't make your assertion unimportant. Afterall you must have thought it to be important enough to post it in the thread. You are correct.. I did fail 1 of the 5 questions you posed. I hasn't went to a Pastor's Conference. Although I'm not sure how that has any reflection on the current topic. Oh wait.. now I know.. It doesn't.

I am so glad the Apostle Paul did not think like that. I am glad he gave the ENTIRE gospel, the love of God with the wrath of God.
yet, offending people is not the best way to share the gospel.

Where is the wrath of God, on a peaceful, loving, and kind person?

Fruit, not words... are the measure of man's soul...

Your style makes hell look comforting.

Dude the gospel offends, it claims to be the ONLY truth in a what is becoming a more post modern world.

(Ephesians 2:3)

3 "Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest."

You think we are good people. Jesus said, to the rich young ruler. "There is none good but God"

You keep leaving out the love and mercy of God. This is the Christ within us, that God gave to the world, it is possible to be in India and live according to the love of God.
To think otherwise is to limit the power of God and make Him a respector of persons.

Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved

Eph 2:6 And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus:

Eph 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

godspeed,

freedom

Try preaching the ENTIRE gospel. It is the love and the wrath. God hates sin therefore He must punish sin because He is just, a just God would not let sin go unpunished therefore He would not let any of us go but God is also love that He sent His Son to die for us. Jesus steppped in and paid our fine. Jesus took the wrath that was meant for us because God hates sin. We should never go to Jesus because we are afraid of hell but rather we go to him because what He did for us so that we didn't have to go to such a horrible place.

That's the way Paul preached it. That's the gospel.

Really sad. A Christian who doesn't understand the gospel rightly. You think there are good people which you probably believe all roads lead to God. You are not being honest with yourself about the gospel.
