.... to add abit more to the above post, Jesus brought it pretty close to home here:
Matt 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
I wonder how much "thou fool" -ing has been going on here among fellow Christians. For example, the liberal usage of this: "", also sarcastic, heated remarks between those who call Jesus Lord. It must make Him weep. "Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem... how I wanted to gather you together under my wings.."
Thanks for the thread, Marian. I think we all have alot to look at. May we not ignore sin.
cg81 - Was it sin in general, or judgement? That's what I see in the scriptures you posted. He directed His anger at the pharisees and all others who would oppress those without a defense.
Ignoring sin.... No, absolutely not!!! One is not to ignore anything that the Holy Spirit brings to ones heart with conviction!!
Get on the knees till His Spirit cleanses and releases your soul from any sin that maybe residing in your heart!!
cg81, has give us excellent scripture to show that Jesus definitely did not teach us to ignore sin.

Thanks for posting, btw.
cg81's right... These scriptures are talking about the sin of spiritual pride.
The Pharisees were so convinced of their own righteousness that they were blinded to their own sin.
Makes me think about the woman caught in adultery.... that they brought to Jesus and wanted to stone.
I disagree with you completely, technobarbie. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. WHY?? Because they stand for something. They judge everything by the Koran. They have no tolerance for sin or disobedience to the Koran. While the Christians in this country look just like the world. We stand for nothing. We indorse homosexuality, abortion, we celebrate the worlds holidays, we are prideful and arrogant instead of humble, the list can go on and on. Where are the mighty men and women of God that are in the world but not of the world? Where are the John the Baptists who cry out repent the kingdom of God is at hand. We have become weak and ineffectual. My heart breaks when I think of Jesus looking down on his church and what He must be thinking.
Yes, I long to live in a society where, if I was raped, I would probably be killed by my family for causing them disgrace ............ where, as a woman, I would be counted as an inferior being ...... I would rather be dead.

yet they have so many different cultures and sects, that they all interpret the Koran differently. Some say love the infidel, some say blow yourself up with as many as you can...

As you speak for yourself, please put down the broad brush you are painting us with.

We indorse homosexuality,
Hardly...

abortion,
Not even close
Quote:
we celebrate the worlds holidays,
Is that a sin? I think it depends on how we observe...

personally, you got me on that one...

Yes it can.

Hopefully preparing and growing.

Funny you should ask that because I never felt "eternal salvation" was some sort of carrot [or threat] that should impact how we behave as Christians. There is enough there to say, looks like there is a further plan, but not something I really dwell on. It is hard enough to surrender and follow on this earth than to be thinking about another.
I guess that, to me, is why we are "freed from the law"- it should be in our hearts and we do what glorifies God and benefits man. period. We willingly subject ourselves to civil laws because humans seem to need them. Sinning is not about violating specific codes - it is about doing or not doing something that can have a negative impact on other people, God's creation, or is offensive to God.
Civil Laws exist at any point of time for a people at a point in time. Now the Bible tells me how to treat my slaves --- and I take that it means it is ok to own other human beings? No, we know that is wrong.
We can't ignore sin because it is our natural state and we strive, with Christ, to transcend that. If we revert to "the Law" we might as well become Jews again.
