Cardinal Edward Egan of New York, the leading Catholic prelate, declared abortion
I believe Churces should be tax exempt but with some of the shenanigans they are pulling I say "pull it" If grassroots citizens' lobbying groups have to pay taxes, so should they - and then take a deduction for charitable work.
"Battle of the Bishops"
It continues...Memphis Bishop Terry Steib this week called on Catholics not to be "one-issue" voters, in contrast to Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput (whose latest comments in a talk titled "Little Murders" were especially strong) and some others.
"For those who support an essential role for faith in public life, this is a disturbing trend for both religion and democracy....."
"Other grave threats to the sanctity of life such as war, torture, racism and the silent genocide of poverty that kills 30,000 children every day around the world were downplayed....."
Has not Christianity always played a role in public life?
No one is downplaying those issues but abortion is the biggest on so many levels. The holocaust is nothing compared to the billions of babies that have been slaughtered in OUR own backyard, where WE are helping funding it.
