the question of suicide...
I know that suicide has been discussed in the past. I'm sorry, I didn't do a search. I don't think that it has had it's own discussion thread and I wanted to start one due to a post by another member in another thread.
http://www.city-data.com/forum/6194538-post25.html
The question was...
...if God does not give people more than they can handle, why do so many people commit suicide?
And then they answered their own question with...
(yeah, yeah, I know...they lack faith).
I think the act of suicide is terrible. In my life, I have personally known one young man who took his own life. He had many struggles and I was saddened that I did not see them in time to offer some help. He was a wonderful young man and missed by many.
I do not think that when a person commits suicide that it means that they have necessarily given up on God. Perhaps they have just given up on this world. I also do not believe that just because a person commits suicide that they are damned to hell. I do not put limitations on the grace of God and only God knows the heart of His children.
Thoughts....

Suicide is very bad and never the answer especially for a Christian because he or she has come to the conclusion that God is not enough and that they can't do all things through Christ that dwells in them but it is a sin just like any other sin, no more no less. It is not an unforgivable sin and I am sure if that person repented and put their trust in Christ before they died they are in heaven.

When people contemplate suicide or commit suicide, obviously they are depressed, and when a person's brain is not functioning properly they are not thinking clearly. Christians can get depressed, also and even though they believe in God sometimes their thinking can become dysfunctional. For those who have committed suicide, I believe that God knows this and will forgive them. Just my take.

I agree 100%! My husbands sister killed herself six weeks before we got married, she had a chemical imbalance, stopped her medication, she was a Christian, I believe she is in Heaven.

There's a couple of threads on this here in the forums.
Take note, this is a very serious and very sensitive issue. This thread may be closed if the mods feel it's getting too hurtful or dangerous.
Thanks

I do believe God's grace covers this in many cases. It is so sad when people give up. I worked on a life squad for 15 years and when we had suicide attempts it was almost always three things. The person was just on overload. My ex had several suicide attempts, it was so hard on the kids. When we split his son stayed with me. I know part of it was that he was afraid he might find his dad on the floor sometime. With him much of it was due to emotional problems. And I guess God knows that. He was a believer.
We have another friend whose son, who was gay, and a Christian, killed himself. I think he thought he was not good enough and it was so very sad to have him end his life. He was a really sweet young man and had such a good future ahead of him.

The Bible doesn't say God won't give people more than they can handle. It says He won't allow someone to be tempted beyond which is common to man. There's a difference.

I think it's interesting to note that He said, "My grace is sufficient for thee", but He doesn't always give that grace.

I agree. And people commit suicide for many reasons. Some are depressed and and have dysfunctional thinking. Some people like the suicide bombers commit suicide for religious or other reasons and to hurt or kill others. Someone may commit suicide to save someone else like a soldier laying down his life for a friend or to save others. Some out of of desperation like those people who jumped from the Twin Towers. I believe that God is merciful and will wipe away all tears.
